I've had three Dodge diesel 4x4's with automatics and never had a problem yet. They all had well over 100k on them. I pulled the boat almost every weekend. They all had programmers. I admit I don't race stop light to stop light anymore and don't do any boosted launches but I haven't had the same bad experiences with the automatics as a lot of people have. I service the trans every 25k and don't drive like a 16 year old, maybe thats why I haven't had any problem---or maybe I'm just old and lucky

That's the key to long tranny AND engine life...DON'T drive it like you stole it. I've run my 2006 Dodge over 2500rpms only once and it was in 5th gear(G56).
