Key stuck in Jeep ignition

My son drives a 2000 Cherokee. He accidently took the key for mama's 2006 Jeep and tried in his. Now it will not come out.

There is a plastic cover on steering column he took off. Appears to be a button on bottom of cylinder but does nothing.

Ideas? thnks!

is the lock /ign switch a square style? the tumbler has to turn to pull the cylinder out of it. i think you have no choice but pull yank it out.

My wife has a 2000 Jeep also. The right key for the car has been stuck in it. Try moving the steering wheel a little to take pressure off the column lock and pull key at the same time.

The tumblers wear out over time. Have had several cars come through the shop with this issue. Sometimes the pull and yank method works other times you get to put a new tumbler in.
