question about trailers.....

I see several trailers that have an extension built on the back of them that sticks out further than the boat and outdrive, whats the purpose of that, besides it looks cool as ****?

You aint kiddin! about 6yrs ago when i had my scarab we had an old timer that could give the huntchback of ND a run for his money merge into our lane and sideswipe the boat/trailer!! Luckly the trailer took most if not all of the hit. We had a tweaked fender and busted marker lights and a 12" scratch on the side of the boat i was lucky enough to wetsand and buff out.....his car on the other hand didnt do so well! Busted mirror...most if not all the rubber molding from the front door to the rear bumper torn off and some nice deep scratches right down to the metal! He said he didnt see it when he made the lane change!!!! How do you miss a 30' boat that blue with bright yellow being pulled by a lifted crewcab dually truck!!!??? Could have been worse....if he took out the drives it would have been game over for that summer!

That extension usually folds around to the side for launching.
