Default Dodge Ram

OK dodge guys. Looking at an 04 ram 2500 4x4 quad cab SLT diesel w/ 75k mi. Really nice and clean. $19k and it is thru a dealer w/ a 3/3000mi warranty. Seams like a deal. Any common issues w/ these?

Yes its an auto, their transmissiion is what scares me. I just sold a D-max/allison and I am reluctant to switch. It also has a huge straight exhaust pipe which sounds good. Would their be any warranty left on this truck?

I don't know the difference between an 03 and an 04, but I have an 03 2500 Cummins/Auto and it is a rusty POS and virtually every part on the truck other than the long block has been replaced at least once in 270,000 miles. 2 transmissions, 1 transfer case, injectors, both injector pumps, several water pumps, rear end, ignition, air conditioning and I am sure a few other thousands of dollars in repairs that I have forgotten. It started falling apart at about 70,000 miles. Other than those items, it has been a great truck.

Ive owned a couple dodges...both junk. Ive never been a fan of them. But some people swear they are the greatest vehicle ever produced (although they wouldnt touch it if it didnt have a cummins powerplant) If you do end up with it, first thing I would do is have the transmission built.

Id get another duramax. I love mine. They are a bit more expensive usually, but IMO you get what you pay for.

Why would you say build the tranny first. pulling a 21' boat, a stock tranny will be fine, when properly taken care of.

Those trucks are fantasic. If you want to actually get some correct info, check out www.cumminsforum.com

Don't let these naysayers turn you off of this truck. Unfortunately for BGIII, he bought a lemon.

I checked Blue Book and the price is about $500 below book. If the truck looks clean take it to a diesel mechanic and let him go through it front to rear.

I had an 03 3500 srw with the 305/555 HO motor, put almost 50,000 miles on it and had no trouble with anything on it. Towed my 6000lb rig like it wasn't there. It looked and drove just as good when I traded it as when I bought it. I traded for another Dodge, this time a 2006 dually. I've put over 42,000 miles on this one and still have not had a problem with it.

Trannys are the weakest link in pretty much any diesel vehicle. Build it first, you can pretty much rest assure it wont go out on you later like on the family trip out of town pulling the boat...just some advice for some piece of mind.
