Smile Chevy 2wd 4.3L Work Trucks Towing Capacity

Hello. I have a 2009 Chevy ext. cab work truck with a 4.3L V6. It is rated to tow 4600 lbs. I am looking at getting a Powerquest 260 Legend (4200 LBS) with trailer (1000 LBS?) What are your opinions? Will I be able to tow this boat with my current truck? Obviously i know that i wont't be doing 75 up hills....thanks for the info...i realize it is above the factory recommended spec. Just looking for honest opinions.

That is a big boat and a tiny truck. Not worth it!

It's a small engine, not a tiny truck. It is a full size pickup.

For some reason I read it as a canyon or ranger size truck. Even still, We pull our boat with a 1500 gmc with a 4.8 and our boat is only 20 feet, but its right around the max towing capacity of the truck. Even if they say the boat weighs 4200 dry you need to take into account all of your gear and most likely the trailer is more then 1000 lbs. Will it tow it... probably... but it sure won't be legal.

Truck will struggle......I have 3 of them for my employees. The ramp will cause "one wheel wheelspin" and you won't be able to get up the ramp. I have a buddy with a Ford F150 5.4 2WD and a steep ramp destroys his chances of getting a 23 Rinker out.

Try the tow before buying the boat!

Canyon doesn't come with a 4.3, only that nightmare Inline 5 cylinder!

I had a 06 chevy 1500 with a 4.8 V8 and towed a baja 23 outlaw with it a couple of times. The truck was screaming towing the boat. I was suprised that the trans didn't blow.

Red face

I'm thinking of looking into a transmission cooler. I can get one installed for around $125 and I have been told it will give me an extra 1000 lbs of towing capacity...?

But will that trans cooler help you stop better? An overloaded truck is an overloaded truck. I doubt the insurance company will EVER cover your claim if they knew you mickey moused a tow rig together....

4.3 is good for the truck as long as it is EMPTY. 4.3 is not a hauler, tranny cooler won't give you an ounce of HP, will give you ZERO stopping power and won't get your rig out of the boat ramp on a busy weekend with onlookers laughing and you and your crew getting frustrated it won't pull the boat out!

Buy a smaller boat or get a bigger truck!
