Default Maybe buying a 2004 F350, thoughts??

I'm looking at buying a lifted 2004 F350 6.0 with a banks kit on it. The truck has 44,000 miles on it. I know there were alot of problems with the 2004 truck so what are your guys thoughts?? Should I just stay way from it or do you think I'm safe with the truck being 7 years old and if there were any issues maybe they have been fixed. The person I'm talking to said he has owned the truck for 4 years and it runs great. I just don't know because I heard the stories about the 04 diesel trucks. Thanks for any input.

Personally - I would be leary. Plenty of horror stories to make me apprehensive.

The 03-04 had issues but are correctable.....if the guy has done a banks kit he MAY have done all the other things to make it a strong reliable motor. Find out everything that has been done and ask the experts (I'm not one of them).

If you are paying big money, keep in mind that there were a lot of updates to the 2005 Super Duty trucks. Tighter turning radius and coil spring front suspension, updated interior, updated front grill, headlights and front bumper, the GCWR increased to 23,000# and dually towing capacity increased to 15,000#.

I might be getting in a 06 F250 King Ranch FX4 Crew Cab PSD, 6inch lift, 37X13.5's. 73k miles. Just throwing it out there...nothing in stone yet.

Thank you guys for all the input. The thing is I have a nice 2000 V-10 crew cab but I just don't like it, so I really wanna go with a diesel now and I'm selling my Impala to get one. Thanks again

I have the same truck as you and understand what you're saying. I miss the torque of a diesel. Just can't justify the $$$ for how little I tow.

I would recommend that if you get a 6.0 you try and find one that is still under engine warranty. I.e. '06 and newer with under 100k mi. They use a torque to yield head bolt that is known to stretch, especially with a tuner on it. If you have a warranty this will cost you $100 deductable and about $450 for some ARP Head Studs that ford will put in for you. Without a warranty this is atleast a 28 hour job. I would also recommend that if you have the studs done to try and back door to the mechanic an EGR Delete. This is the other big failure on the 6.0 that should be done at the same time as the Studs. This is about a $350 part and is Illegal to use if you have to take emissions. Make sure you check the VIN with a Dealer to determine the exact exp. of the warranty. P.M. me if you get one under warranty and I can tell you how to get the Dealer to do the work without the bolts being stretched yet.

I'm in the same boat!!! I only have a truck to tow my boat to Havasu 4 or 5 times a year. My V-10 only has 59000 on it.
