Default Any real first hand knowledge of Ecoboost

Ok ordered a 3.5l Eco Boost today. I have no obligation to buy the truck when it shows up in 6-8 weeks. Just wondering any knowledge that you have first hand or buddy.

Before I start a half ton like this will never tow like my F250 diesel, I got that and understand. But with diesel staying at about 50 cents more a gallon than gas and the truck geting 13 as a daily driver I've had enough.

Either way I got the Eco boost with 3.73 gears and suppose to tow up 11,300lbs. I have a 29ft Fever with twins Boat weighs 7 trailer weights 2500. With make fuel and lubricants it should weigh a total of 10,500. But I never a full tank so Im guessing the normal weight would be around 10k.

Everything Ive read guys are getting 16-22MPG everyday driving and even higher on hi-way. Now towing big loads they are getting 8-10MPG which isnt as good as the diesel but only 1-2mpg less. BUT, BUT I would be paying 50 cents less per gallon. I tow the boat what maybe 12 times a summer no more than an hour or so.

Just looking for thoughts and knowledge.

I was looking really hard at the ecoboost. I tow a 28 saber and i bet our boats weigh close to the same. I drove the eocboost, read all i could find on them and talked to everyone that i could. I use my truck for work and travel a lot so i am with you on the fuel savings.
Before i pullted the trigger on a new ecoboost, i did a complete 180 instead of buying a NEW F-150, I bought a USED dodge cummins, laramie, 3500... honestly, i couldnt be happier and i feel i made the right decision. The cummins is getting 21-22 mpg on the hwy and 15-16 towing. I understand where you are coming from, becuase i was there 2 months ago but have zero regrets with my decision.
Good Luck!

Hey thanks. yeah I like said guys are claiming right around 17-18 for every day driving, and 8-10 for 8k loads and more. I can care less at crappy towing because its not that often.

I think there is no doubt that the truck will do it, I am just looking at MPG. Heres my calculations Im basing this off of 10k miles are yar

26 Gallon F150- assuming you get 18MPG average will give you 468 miles per tank at a cost of $96 bucks.(87 is 3.70 here diesel is 4.25) For a cost of 20 cents a mile. At 10k miles annually truck will cost $2051 a year in fuel. Plus two oil changes at 50 bucks well say $2200

08 F250 6.4l 38 gallon tank- at 13mpg average you will go 494 miles at a cost of $161 or 33 cents per mile. 10k miles per year fuel cost will run you $3300 bucks. Plus two fuel filter changes at 120 and two oil changes at 75-100 bucks a pop. Truck will cost 3500 bucks a year.

Thats a savings of $1200 bucks a year and about a half years worth of car payments. I can probably cheaper insurance on an F150 as well. I just look at is $70 savings per fill up, just in one month your talking about saving close to 300 bucks.

And I have thought about selling down like you mentioned but then you run the risk of being out of warranty with an older truck and probably have something that has a million miles on it.

You are not mentioning the safety of your boat and family that comes from towing with a cushion on the rating side, a 1/2 ton will pull it but a 3/4 will dominate it instead of the inverse. I am a Chevy guy and just bought a new 3500 crew short single but strongly considered the used Dodge market also and would have been happer either way. I decided on the chevy cause the family needed a traveling vehicle in my case and the wifes 06 Rubicon did not get it for me on a road trip. If she'd of kept my yukon and got rid of the Jeep I would have shopped for a good used Dodge for towing but they drive like hay wagons compared to the newer trucks, especially this new chassis Chevy. mileage is 19.5/12 with it.

You make a good point here. But do I need something to dominate a boat that gets towed 12 times year 75miles or less and really 30miles just about every weekend?

And the truck is rated to tow more than what the boat weighs so there is no safety rules being broke. And to be flat honest ratings are always lower than they really are. So Ford says that truck can tow 11,300 SAFELY if it couldn't they would be sued. I read something once with ratings is most are lower by 10% than what they really can do. Elevators for ie , may say 500lbs but really can do 550. I am sure its the same with this.

Like I said in my first post here, I have no doubt the 250 will be better. The F150 is rated to do it, and will do it. I am looking for overall knowledge of the truck from first hand use. Not opinion.

2 friends of mine own them now and they are impressive.

No- it will not tow like a diesel but its incredibly good. amazing actually.

Ive towed my 28 footer and a 20 foot toyhauler (10K) and it yanked both around with amazing gusto.

What is astounding to me is how high of a gear it can pull before it downshifts while towing- this makes for a quiet relaxed environment rather than a naturally aspirated half ton roaring along at 4K in 3rd gear for miles on end climbing long hills.

The 3:73 trucks are getting 15 in town and 18-19 on the freeway.

I have another few years in my titan, and am waiting to see if the 2012's bring the 34 gallon tank and how they change, but if I were in the 1/2 ton market today this would be the truck id buy.
