I use 4 low everytime on the ramp the gears are there why put all the strain on everything else if you don't have to.

I have never used 4WD in my truck

I will never own a truck without 4WD !!!!

I never want to be in that position of needing it and it not being there

My main ramp is the perfect angle, concrete and ribbed. Never used 4 wheel even at low tide. Steeper ramps I've used 4low but didn't bother locking the front hubs. F350 pulling 8000 lbs

I usually use the 4x4 so that way if they rear tires go in the water a bit at least the fronts are dry and that way the parking brake(s) are linked to all 4 wheels.

I use it everytime so I'm not even sure if its needed or not. If you have it why not use it. Living in Mi. it would be foolish to buy a truck without 4 wheel drive even if you didnt have a boat.

That happened to me several times too. I had a srw Dodge 3500 only 5000lbs boat/trailer. Very embarrassing. I hate 2wd on ramps.

Oh my god how did they tow these big boats 20 years ago without 4x4 being as prevalent as it is today, lol. Personally we have 3-4ft of snow every winter so 4x4 is a must. Do I use 4x4 at the ramp nope, never had to yet, but nice knowing that I have it. For the extra 2-3 grand in 4x4 its a good investment and really quite foolish not to have it. But at the same time, if 4x4 didnt exisit would I be fine, probably.

Never have had it nor never needed it even at Lake Cumberlands Jamestown steep wet Ramp. That's towing a 28'.

Limited slip rear ends, and proper tongue weight with stock sized tires are the key.

So, what happens when you can't use your trusted/favorite/usual ramp? I.e. you are 100 miles from your trailer, and you break a drive--or worse, you are taking on water; and you have to use Billy Bob's Backyard BBQ & Boatworks' gravel with 2x8s laid across it--ramp?

Be prepared. I don't leave home without it.
