Any F250 6.4 Owners that have been down the radiator road?

Has anyone here had the luck to have been through the 6.4 diesel radiator replacement ordeal? This issue may also affect the F350's but I'm not sure.

I have a 2008 F250 w/15k miles which is about 3 months out of the 36/36 warranty. Truck just developed a very small leak so I take it to Ford dealer to get checked out. Knew my warranty had just expired but wasn't too worried about it, figured either the leak was something minor or if it was major the 5/100 power train warranty would cover a portion or all of it.

Service department calls with the news that the radiator was leaking and while there are a handful of TSB's nothing would cover it under warranty. My cost to replace the radiator, de-gas bottle, hoses, etc (all mentioned in the TSB that doesn't pay for it) to fix it right would be a mere $2,150 or if I wanted to take the cheap not recommended route I could replace just the radiator for $1,650.

I really do like the truck but if I am going to replace the radiator every 15k miles forget it...Has anyone here experienced this common 6.4 radiator failure and did you have any luck in getting Ford to help with the cost to repair their poorly designed product.

08 F250, almost 50k, replaced sometime in the 20k range under warranty. Ford guy told me there was just a bad batch that went in the 08s. Replacement seems fine.

Some guys on here talk about going to their auto insurance co. Not sure whats up with that.

not so sure about auto ins covering this. I would think this would be part of the power train warranty?

If not take a look at the radiator. I never looked at my 6.4 when I had it. But any radiator I ever did took me 30mins or less and is usually couple screws and tubes.

6.4 radiator replacement is a big job. The engine has 7 coolers and most of them are in your way .

kind of what I thought. From what i remember a lot of crap. Still do not think it would be that hard.

Sorry to hear about that Powerquest230, but I would maybe try to shop around other dealers' service departments or raise a little 'cane with a Ford rep, you should not be paying for this. We have had 4 6.4 trucks (3 2008, 1 2009) that we haul horses with and all 4 have had their radiators replaced, one truck had 3, and have not paid out of pocket for any of them regardless if over 36,000 miles. This most certainly falls under the 100k powertrain warranty, good luck!

If the dealer won't assist you in working with Ford on a good will repair I would contact Ford directly. I've had success in the past working directly with the manufacture on good will repairs on vehicles that were not too far out of warranty. In one case, the vehicle was 14K miles out of warranty. Do a search of my threads. I had an F-450 that went thru three!!! It was under warranty but Ford was very poor to deal with.

Ford makes a hell of a 2011 take it down the street to the next Ford dealer and pick up the 6.7 you will way more happy in alotta aspects
