Default Tell me about a ford f 250 with 5.4

Help me out guys I'M Thinking about a 3/4 ton i found a 06 f 250 ext cab in great shape with 100k loaded up, it has the 5.4 in it hows it tow? fuel when not towing? i have a formula 303 and figure im around 9500 pds is the 5.4 under powered? id rather have a gm but this poped up and caught my eye, my 5.3 gmc tows ok but stopping is more of the concern Ithe 3/4 ton will solve that but if i do this it would be nice to have the power also

thanks

The 5.4 will out tow the 5.3 hands down, but I wouldn't want either in a 3/4 ton that you plan on towing very much with. Alot depends on the gear ratio in the rear end though. Get the v10 if you really want a gas motor.

Ive drove both the gm 5.3 and owned the ford 5.4 in a half ton, both motors are similar in power.

My work truck is an 08 f250 reg cab long box 4x4 and honestly the truck is a pig. Empty i can get 16 mpg on long hauls (60 mph), city/highway i get 13-14. We haul a 20ft enclosed trailer with two commercial mowers that weigh in at a total of roughly 8000 pounds. The truck is constantly shifting, so we just pull that trailer with the new 6.2 fords or the 6.4 psd.

IMO it can be done but i feel that 9500 pds is too much for a 5.4.

I had a F150 with the 5.4 and towed about 6000 lbs with it. It was Ok as long as you didn't try to set any speed records with it. Got about 11 mpg at 65 with 3.73 gears.

For 9500 lbs, I'm betting you will want a bigger engine but if you are satisfied with your 5.3 performance now perhaps not.

Great info guys, honestly 95% of my towing iswithin 2 miles of my house im a half mile from the ramp, 4 miles round trip if i need gas, i do however go on about 3 trips a year 2 are 100 each way and the other about 150 miles so nothing crazy. id like to get a 3/4 GMC crew with 6.0 but this caught my eyeso i thought id explore it

I have a 2010 F-150 FX4 Screw with the 5.4L and 3.73 gears. I towed a buddy's 303 from our Marina back to my house last summer. About a 30 mile trip. The truck pulled it OK for that small distance. I would not want it to be that boat's main tow vehicle. Not enough power.

f250 with the 5.4 I would run far away. With your limited miles and couple small trips youll thank me later for saying stay with a 1/2 ton. I went from diesel to EB and never looked back. Tow my 29 fountain with no problems.
