I have an 08 Duramax / Allision and am very happy with it. All three are good trucks and have there pro's and cons. I see a lot more Ford diesels getting engine work done in shops, but there is also more of them on the road. I looked at Dodge before I bought my GMC liked the Cummins just could not pass on the deal for my truck. it was December 08 and the world was ending. In short you will probably be happy with whatever you buy, glad you are ok.

I am getting anxious to get something...this 2012 5.3 Silvarado doesn't hold a candle to my 5.4 F-150 ..RIP.

john,,you best have another look under that hood,,its either a v6 or a 4.8 liter because i know for a fact that the 2012 5.3 with 400 ponys will whoop the chit out of a 5.4 in a f-150

Well I had a look...and it's a 5.3...and if it's 400 horsepower they are all hags because this thing wouldn't pull a sick whore off a piss pot....and I'm a bow tie guy at heart. I have driven a 6.0 Vortec and it was strong...but this thing won't keep up with my nephew's 4.3 S-10.

I absolutely love diesel trucks! BUT they are not for everyone. Compare the price of the same used 3/4 ton with a gas vs diesel and usually the price difference is about 10k- 15k. Yes the diesel will get much better mileage. But the cost of diesel is much higher as well. For the guy that is buying a truck for occasional use to tow the boat and an odd job here and there, it will take a long time to pay/justify a diesel.

If i had to buy a new truck the decision would be tough....I love diesels and would really like one...but the 10-15k I could save would put a very nice 540 in my Donzi!!!

If you tow less than 10k I would go buy a F150 EB. Ive had a 07 and 08 F250 diesel and to be honest if I were to go diesel again it probably wouldnt be in a Ford.

I have a 2001 3500 Chevy and absolutely love it. The Alison Transmission Rocks!!!!!

Up until this year I had to put very little $$ into it. (Muffler and general maintenance).

After 11 years I finally had to do all the brake lines, rotors, power steering cooler, and neutral safety switch on the trans. That was from sitting as much as using unfortunately.

Runs like brand new again and I will def. buy a GM truck to replace it when the time comes.

Sprink58- The Dmax and Allison is a GREAT combo. It will pull anything you need want etc.

The 5.3 is a high revving engine and I like the 6.0 or 6.2 better.

If you can find a 8.1 gas in a pickup (they stopped making them in 06) they work GREAT also.

My .02

+1 on the 2006 LBZ engine. Had one from new until four months ago, only put fuel in it and changed the oil in 100k miles. Not even brake pads or a battery.

Buddy has same year F-250 and the GMC walked all over it towing, there was no comparison. He also put three transmissions in his in the same period of time and mileage.

The 2005 is less HP and TQ by a decent amount, and sometime in 2007 they got emissions. The 2006 is the best of the bunch.

Just my personal experience. Bought a 2012 Duramax to replace it I was so impressed.

I kinda have mixed emotions about the boxed frame that chevy and dodge are using. The idea of an unboxed frame is to absorb some of the engines torque. But clearly the Ford frame is TOO weak!!!
