I bought a 2005 F250 to tow the boat. I'm putting 20x9 rims on it, but my head is spinning with all the different tires verse price. A question I have is ... Is it necessary to have a load range E tire? Or can I use a 2833lb max load Nitto. 275/55r-20. I'm trying to get out of the the tires for under 280. a piece. I've been floating through 4wheel parts, tite rack and summitt for a week.

I would go E, but if your never going to tow, then D would be fine. Actually you can usually fine E range for the same price as D.

Try good year wranger Silent armor, I loved those tires on my 2008 F250

The e load range tires will last longer, wear better. But I've towed for years on d load range tires with no issues. Even did a few miles with c rated toyo proxes on my duramax.

Actual weight rating depends on the tire and size. The letter just signifies how many plies. I believe d is 8 ply

not to flame anybody But I would never put C range on a 3/4 ton. C range does not leave you much wiggle room. I think the 1/2 ton I have now came with D's or a load range equivalent.
It also depends on the size of the tire and the pressure you put it into, as to what weight yuou can get. But C is 6 ply D is 8 and E is 10.

It was a toy, that got raced more than street driven. No d range tires have the traction that the proxes had.

Just get that same Nitto 275/55R-20 tire in a LT version and that should get you an E load rating. I've got Nitto's on my truck and went with the non LT because of cost. Though I like them a lot I wish I went ahead and gotten the LT's mostly because It doesn't corner as well with the softer side walls. Haven't had real trouble with towing but it does move the rear end around a little on sharp corners at interstate speed which wasn't as noticeable when I had my old tires which where LT's.

Rear end sway is something I'm thinking of. One reason why I'm using 20" rims ( aside from style) is the reduced amount of sidewall. I'm towing my Phantom quite a bit over distance so highway comfort is important. I'd hate to buy something that was not up to the task. If the money tree was a bit taller there would be no real issue. Just trying to shop wisely. Those 32" Nitto(275) are around 220 a pop or a 305/50 for 300 E, which is high for me. And is a higher pressure tire just plain the best way to go when towing a load?

I would only use load range e tires . they don't waular around . been there done that . I have a 2005 f250 sd with 20 inch wheels . I really like my Toyo at tires .
