I have an '07 with a 5.9L in it. The 6.7L began to go into them mid-year. No egr/dpf bullcrap on the 5.9L. I'd look for anything from mid-'04 to mid-'07.

I have an 11 6.7, the only issues I have had were with the emissions crap, which is no longer in place. Made it a completely different truck post delete. I have another friend with an 09 6.7 with 200k deleted and he has only had issues with fog lights, and had to rebuild the front end, kinda a given with dodge.

Have a 2005 CTD SRW, same engine as 2004.5 thru 2007.5. Pulls 12K boat easily, stock other than a Banks cat back exhaust, gets good MPG. No issues with truck, club can short bed, other than a front wheel bearing at 60K miles.

Id buy an 06 or early 07. I like the added displacement of the 6.7, but I dont like the emissions junk. One of the big advantages of the 6.7 is the exhaust brake. On a 5.9 you will have to add one if you are so inclined. The 5.9 has the reputation of being bullet proof, but with the right mods and deletes the 6.7 will fare the same. In my opinion.

I like my 12v dually. Other than the timing has slipped, its been a good truck.

honestly if you want reliability 1995-1998,,you want a little more power and 4 wheel disc brakes 2002,,if you want a beast for power and and a 50/50 reliable stock 2004 05 06 add the new lift pump before it takes out the injector pump...

google head gasket 6.7L cummins... since the bore is larger, they are more prone to head gasket failure w increased boost... plus there's the added drama of all the emissions stuff you have to remove to get decent mileage from them

i have 2 x 5.9 cummins trucks and they run great, one w/ 200k+ and one w/ 135.
the 250\305hp 03-04 5.9's need more add ons to compete w/ the 325hp 610tq 04.5-07.5. if i had to do it again, i would get 04.5-07.5 5.9

6.7,s and stock non wastegated turbo,s is a bad deal , deleting an emission truck without a blowoff could be trouble and slightly lifting the head and guy,s romping on a cold engine are problems . watch the boost and the pre turbo exhaust pressure under load and you will see the exhaust or drive pressure surpass the boost , not good .

Here's my truck. It's been good to me, only time it breaks, usually it's because I'm doing dumb things.

Just purchased an 06 3500 4x4 dually in the fall. Compared to my 08 Ford PSD the power in the dodge seems a little bit more "usable". I rebuilt the front end on the dodge and upgraded the steering but if you're looking at 2wd you shouldn't have any of those issues. What are you guys with 06+ 5.9's running in the way of an aftermarket lift pump? Also, has anyone else experienced the torque converter cooler failure that wipes out the tranny? Just learned of this issue today.
