i have a 14 with the 5.3, i willl have to check on the gear ratio, but i pull my boat "33 eliminator" at least once a month from KC to Lake of the Ozarks. It does "ok". Ride is still great and with the surge brakes on the trailer it handles great and stops fine, just a little doggy in the hills down by the lake, and horrible MPG. We do have a diesel for longer trips but i usually pull the boat one way... and leave it for a week or so, and as quite and smooth as the 14 is its worth it to me to just drive it.

Thought I would update this, I ended up pulling the trigger on a leftover 14, so far except for few design issues I love it, will have to wait until the spring to see about towing,

It's a 2015 5.3 with 3.73 and max trailering! Every option except navigation and the safety (lane departure, etc.)

3.42's the 05 pulled OK with the same, hoping the advances in the tranny department help, its still heavy for the truck, but for what I'm doing it will hopefully be OK, so far a 2/3 mpg increase going back n forth to work,

I am also seeing a solid 2 mpg increase over my 07 Avalanche. just used the siri eyes free feature with my iPhone 6 and love it! So many bells and whistles!!

We both had a great trip going down. My 2010 Sierra Denali pulled my 26PC great like it always does and Split's 2010 Sierra pulled his 292 with no hiccups. Gas mileage was not the best but as expected. I cannot speak for exact numbers for Split but my rigged weighed in at 16,300lbs rolling into Boca Grande (filled up fuel before scale, towed empty tank) got a whopping 9.1mpg doing the speed limits most of the way. His rig was just under 1000lbs lighter and I took on a gallon or two extra when we filled at our stops. The aerodynamics of a speed boat makes the tow a lot easier for the truck because I have towed my Dad's 312 fastech and it felt a lot lighter than my 26 on the highway but like I said that 6.2 never left me yearning for more HP.

I'll second IDCEs comment. I rolled across the scale at 15600. The 5.3 ain't no 6.2 but she did just fine, very happy with how she towed. I estimate I was getting prob 10-11mpg. We had handheld walkie talkies to communicate back and forth on heading down and back, when IDCE would come over and indicate gas light was on around 30 miles to empty I was still showing 50-60 miles till E. So really couldn't have gone any better. Only trailer issues we encountered was a marker light go out on IDCEs trailer due to a faulty wire from manufacturer, chit just broke, and I had a license plate bracket issue due to installer error. Nothing a zip tie couldn't fix. FYI...wife installed license plate...just saying...LOL. I guess all that prep work before hand paid off.
