Yeah, the 8.1 is king…we were really, really disappointed when GM dropped that engine.
We figured a guy had to drive between 20-25k a year to justify a diesel over the 8.1
And GMGearhead is correct …twice the power, same mileage as the 6.0…it even burns oil like every bbc ever built
But the reality is if you can find a nice 8.1 you're going to pay whatever the guy is asking cuz he thinks he's got the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow….and he does.
Especially if it's in a 3/4 ton Subby…Those are the ultimate tow rig in my opinion. The diesel Excursions got better mileage but the damn things were like riding in a school bus compared to a Suburban

^^^^ damn straight, my 8.1 Surburban is the best vehicle I've ever owned, after owning one I'll never tow with anything else. Dead nuts reliable, and i have a huge heavy trailer for my boat, when I'm loaded up with fuel and **** i guarantee I'm close to 11,000 pounds and you don't even feel it on the highway.

I've got a 2500 Yukon XL 4x4 with a 6.0 / 4L80E 4.11 gears on 265/75/16 tires and BB tune and get 11 towing the boat (21ft bowrider) and 15 on the highway...If all in town its 11.5
I've also got a 2500HD 4x4 6.0 / 4L80E 4.56 gears on 285/75/16 tires and BB tune and got 9 towing the 10k toyhauler from CA to Texas, 11 towing the boat above and 14.5 on the highway.
6.0 likes to drink the gas BUT it is stone cold reliable. No complaints from me on MPG...the boat gets much worse

I had a 2009 Chevy 2500hd with the 6.0. I hated the truck, was always a Chevy guy until that one. 14mpg empty, with 6-7k behind it 7-8mpg, with 13-14k behind it about 4mpg. Honestly my dad's f150 with a 5.4 pulled better and down shifted less on hills. (Obviously on the lighter end of that spectrum). We bought 3 at the same time as company trucks and mine was the only one that didn't have MAJOR issues. Oil pumps, transmission etc. All covered under warranty though.

I have an 06 2500 with the 6.0 and love it. It has been a bullet proof truck. I have 180,000 miles on it and it still rides and drives like new. I am still running the original front brakes at 180,000. Replaced rear brakes once, front wheel bearings once, and heater motor. That is all I have ever had to do to the truck. 9 Michigan winters and the only visible rust is on the front lip of the hood. Best truck I have ever owned and I owned 7 Fords before I bought the Chevy. 14mpg highway if you relly baby it, but realistically 12 every day. About 7 mpg towing 5000 lbs.

I guess I have one of the magic trucks. I can do 14/14.5 on the hwy unloaded at 70-75 and I have one size larger tires. Pulling the boat I am down to 9-10.
Not one bit of trouble, jump in and go.
my truck is a 2012 4x4 quad cab with 3.73's and the 6spd

Quilan, You pulling your boats with the 6.2 1/2 ton?
Talked to a guy at the Ozarks that said his 14 Silverado crew 4x4 6.2 max tow pkg pulled his 38 Scarab with no problem!

I had 3 different 6.0 trucks, Silverado SS, 1500 HD, 2500 HD, 2 or 4 or AWD made no difference, all got 10.5mpg. my 08 Sierra Denali 6.2 is an honest 15.5 I am amazed at the difference in mileage. The 6.2 uses a little oil that none of the 6.0s ever did but what a difference at the pump!
