I have the curt on my current 3500 and had the Titan class v on my previous truck. Very happy with both. The Curt is priced a bit better. No idea if you ever get up to St. Louis area but the large etrailer facility in wentzville does free installs on any products you buy from them. http://www.etrailer.com

I just looked and I actually got the 20,000lb one with the 2 1/2" receiver. I think Curt calls it their "commercial duty" Class V

Now watch what you have to spend on a real 2 1/2 receiver. I bought a adjustable aluminum 15000lb at just over $600

I was surprised that the factory Chevy hitch had such a relatively low rating considering its tied into both the frame and the reinforcing steel of the bumper. Doesn't seem like it could get much more secure. What's the difference, the gauge of the steel it's made of or...?

The factory GM hitches are worse than the damn Ford. That round tube is a piece of crap on the GMs, coupled with being literally "tied" to the bumper, they are terrible.
Look at the metal gauge, as well as the weld thicknesses. It's easy to spot the stronger hitch. Specific to the GM's it's MUCH more difficult to twist a square tube than the round tube crossmembers.

Curt vs. GM:
