I think its important to know what kind of diesel and the use of it. My 96 Chevy 6.5 TD has 130,000 on it now. I think in 4 years I put less than 3000 miles on it, and in the winter it will sit for months without moving or starting. I use Mobil 1 synthetic usually 15w-50. I just went out to Lake Havasu and back to Michigan, (empty going and pulling a 6000 lb boat and trailer back), and the truck used 1 quart on the way out and less than 1 quart on the way back.

Rotella 15w40 every 5K miles or once/year & also Lucas Oil Treatment (Lucas calls for 1 quart of their SYNTHETIC with your dino oil changes n PSDs.)


My GF is looking at diesel ML-Class Mercedes Benz SUVs, and they call for Mobil1; but can't remember the viscosity.
