This was E trailer for 2013 ML 350. I realize yours is 2010, but you could be faced with the same scenario...
Bottom line is yeah we won the war (WWII) but sure as hell lost this battle!

Oh yeah, be gentle with the 201 990 04 58 "riveting nuts" that hold the license plate on.... they're about $6.00 / ea. best to just remove the panel from the hatchback and secure them w/ 8mm socket when removing / and re-installing the screws. That handy tid bit of advice should save you a trip to the Mercedes dealer (who doesn't stock them anyways) and the $24.00 to replace all four of the little sonstabeeches. Might save you a fifth of Jamieson too...

Thanks guys. I have found some stuff on MBWorld.com that indicates the SAM (onboard computer) "thinks for itself" and that these voltages may be low amp looking for the trailer connection.
I have a call into the local MB dealer Service advisor as well. I think I have on trailer here at home that is all old school bulbs, not LEDs. I may try to plug it in and see what the MB does.

Shocker for me was how bad the towing MPG got with a tiny boat.....must have been the way the air got trapped under the bow of the whaler. Going off memory but it went from 22-23 MPG to like 16 with the whaler.

E-trailer has a wiring set up that never spilces into wires, it just senses them like a Timing gun does. Pretty slick. Just make a ground for it, run a power wire from the battery, hook those connectors around the proper wires and wallah.
I'm mentioning this if your other options are stupid crazy money or labor.

I had 2 GL320 Bluetecs. I towed a 15 whaler with them but they had factory hitches and the lights worked fine for me.

Had a similar problem with a VW Toureg. After a lot of frustration, took it into the dealer and like on the prior poster's Porsche, they fixed it with their computer. Seems these cars "know" when a trailer is hooked up, and adjusts many things on the suv, like shift points and braking, to work with it. Once the plug was fixed, the Toureg was one of the best mid sized pulling vehicles I've ever used. Hope you find likewise.
What happens when you hook it up to a trailer as it is?
