I have a Ford crew cab dually with 7.3 PSD. I have just replaced my transmission. I started towing more weight after it had 155K miles on it. If you ad up the GCVW (gross combined vehicle weight) of truck /people/fuels/cargo/tongue weight/and weight of trailer, it may add up to more than your transmission can handle.

I am towing a 42 fountain with steel trailer/fuel in boat and 2 motorcycles mounted on trailer. My tag trailer and boat weighs in the 18,000 lb range which is roughly 7-8000 pounds more than the truck is rated for. Towing from OH to FL is alot of work on the truck.
I finally installed a custom TC and trans by SUNCOAST that they use und sled pulling and racing.. I should be in great shape now. the next weak link in yet to surface.
Check how much your towing and if you have a chip in your truck your tranny will fail in less than half the time or sooner as told by the pros at Suncoast and TCI trans.
wow, too much. sorry. just something to keep in mind on ANY truck brand.
