'05 Silverado-Too many bells
Just got my new truck and maybe I'm old fashioned but I hate the bells that go off for everything. I always wear my seatbelt but I don't need a bell to remind me. If I want to leave the key in the ignition,it's my truck,I don't need a bell. It even has a bell to tell me the fuel is low. I hate bells. In the old days, unplug a couple wires, the bells are gone. Not on this one, seems everything goes thru the radio and you don't mess with it.There must be a simple way out of this,I move my truck around the lot everyday, hooking up boats, etc, may only move it 20 feet and the bells are driving me crazy. Help, tech guys.

Re: '05 Silverado-Too many bells
Robert, hit the dieselplace.com or gm trucks.com the two best/friendliest message boards for us GM guys. The bell issues have been discussed at length. It's much more complicated than it seems to get rid of them...yea, all through the radio all right and also through the ECM via the radio!
dieselplace.com is the forum wether you've got a DMax or not. Plenty of all encompassing GM truck forums and gasser forums too. Check it out, you'll like it there, and recognize the vbulletin format.
Some have gotten around some of them but I can't remember how. Had followed it a bit on that site
and they're called "chimes" if that makes 'em sound any better to your ears.
P.S. I posted about the "Sport"

Re: '05 Silverado-Too many bells
Robert,
Change out the factory radio with an aftermarket deck, the bells won't work!! I changed the head unit with an aftermarket and the bells went away! If you are serious, PM me and I'll find out which wiring harness you would need to change out the deck without affecting the othe components in the truck except the bell!
Dave

If you are an onstar subscriber, won't it screw that up changing the radio? I don't care for all of the beeping, but I do like the controls on the steering wheel.

Re: '05 Silverado-Too many bells
there is a kit from metra that you can get from any car audio shop the allows you to replace the stock head unit without losing your bose amplifier or your onstar
and yes it will get rid of the bells or chimes, w/e they're called

Re: '05 Silverado-Too many bells
Well,I just disabled all the chimes the Alabama way.Pulled the radio fuse! Presto,no more chimes. I never listen to the radio anyway.I suppose if I want to really get sophisticated I could unplug the driver's door speaker and I could have the radio in all the other speakers since the chimes apparently only go to the driver's door speaker. Don't laugh, like I said,it's my truck and I should be able to control those chimes as I see fit
