What are you looking at towing. I have a friend that's towed a 35' Cig. it fried his tranny. Not sure what gears he was running.

Its a nice truck. Shoot a PM to Aggressor 25 here on OSO. He is selling his 1998 3/4 ton Suburban with the same engine. He has 108,000 on his. He knows the ins and outs of that power package well.

I had an '00, which was the same truck....K3500 Crew Dually 4x4, 454 auto.
Good truck...
The tranny went out of it at 3,500 miles...by fault of the dealer..
The good ole boys in SC fixed it up, and it never had an issue after that. I put 70k on it, then traded on my D max.

I'd say the worst thing about the truck was the brakes. NFG. The new style trucks stop much better.
The rear brakes almost never did anything...

That truck rode great once I put decent shocks on it.

I put the Banks powerpack on it... It woke it up quite a bit up top. I believe the stock torque figures were about 450lb/ft. Stock HP is 295.
I got 11mpgs constantly when empty (but I have a heavy foot), got constant 9-10 pulling 8,000. It'll pull in top gear at 80mph no problem.
Heaviest load I pulled was a Tiger on steel trailer, AND two 900 Sterlings in the bed of the truck. No brakes on the trailer!
That trip actually finished off one of my front tires (from braking). Power with that load was decent.

Aggressor's Sub wouldn't be a bad buy at all.

The 4L80E tranny is TOUGH. I wasn't easy on that truck... My '94 had the same trans and got beaten on a daily basis. Never an issue.

I tow a 43' Black Thunder @ 14K lbs with a '97 C3500 crew cab dually. 10-12 mpg empty. 7-10 towing. Brakes "NFG". Put a different master cyl and porprotioning valve, big improvement. Also installed an alum. rear end cover that holds 2 extra quarts of lube. Don't burn paint off the cover any more. Joe Murray

Well they were National Marine's... No they were the new owner's, no..they were the "prior" owner's....

So, even if I still had them...they'd belong to someone else...

I have a baja 320 with a borrowed steel trailer right now boat weighs 7500 empty. I went ahead and bought the truck, it is probably cleanest truck I have ever seen of that age. I has had royal purple in everything since new. The owner told me the same thing about the brakes, he had the rotors cryogenicaly treated to help keep them from warping. I had a 85 1 ton and it had awesome brakes, hydroboost factory. I am suprised they downgraded.
