Question about Regal Velocity?
Sorry, don't boo and Hiss me off the board...
I'm looking at a 88 Regal Velocity, 23' w 7.4 and Bravo.
It seems for a sub $15K price this would be a pretty good way to go to obtain a Stepp Hull and Velocity Performance.
This is the Same Hull design isn't it?
Similar performance levels?
Obviously the deck isn't as nice as your boats, but I was thinking about running a low black plexi windscreen at the ht of the weird gunnel triangle? just to ease the look a bit.
How fast do you think this boat could go with a stock 7.4?
At this price I could go w a big motor next season.
How fast w a 640 hp 540ci?
Is the Bravo mounted at the correct ht to the pad on these boats to obtain the correct X dimension?
I know Steve wasn't happy with the Regal deal etc, but are there any real issues with these boats I should know about?
Even if it's not the same construction standards as Steve's boats, Are we talking about safety issues? Has anyone heard of them delaminating and sinking?
Any warnings to be heard?
Does anyone have pics of these boats, interior pics?
Thanks

Re: Question about Regal Velocity?
I had an 1990 23 Regal Velocity with a 454 mag.
It was a good boat and ran pretty fast for a 23 with stock power. It was a light boat and had very thin fiberglass. I could see through the sides in the engine compartment. But the boat never had any issues. I ran it hard and had it for about 2 years. I would not have a problem owning it again.

454mag/365hp
75mph speedometer/72mph gps w/ 1 person 1/2 tank fuel
The boat would fly for a stock 23' boat and I believe it had a 48 gallon tank. It was very economical to run

Re: Question about Regal Velocity?
we have taken in three or four over the last two years and all have been in good condition. We took in one with a 675hp 540ci with an imco drive that I ran 95 in one day. Pretty scary! Alot of people compare them to the sea ray pachanga. It is a much better driving boat. Be careful most 88's had a bigblock with an alpha drive. The drive won't last. Good luck!

Re: Question about Regal Velocity?
I've got a '88 23'er. I dropped a 540/600hp in it last year after the 454 with 600 hours blew a coupler. it runs in the mid 80's no problem with more to spare, the weak point is the Bravo and don't want to push it. With the tired 454, I'd see 65mph no problem. With the 540 I skirt the noise limits by getting 4 extra dB, and due to the law stating the readings have to be 1 meter from the trasom, I get reading of 78-84dB. It's nice to have side dumps!
