Default 360 vs 390 vs 410

I have been looking into the larger Velocity boats (360, 390, 410) and wanted to get everybody’s opinion of each. I personally have never ridden in the boats but have seen several of them @ poker runs. I’m not a huge fan of the paint schemes but that can always be fixed. The #1 goal is speed and at the same time comfort for a large group (during poker runs). I guess a few topics would be; how fast with what kind of power, getting up to plain (issues?), handling @ top speed (chin walk?), pro’s / cons of cockpit setup, any deals outs out there?..

410 – 81 mph w/ 500’s does not seem bad at all for a “Cruiser”. Seems to be a lot of reasonable deals out there.

390 – 90+ mph w/ 630’s, non staggered looks to have a good amount of room in the cockpit area.

360 – not much info out there.

There are several people out there that have more seat time than me in the listed boats but I have ridden a good bit in the 390's and in a couple of the 41's. The Viper 36' staggered boat would run 92 with 550hp Vipers in it. I like the boat but the cabin is a little hard to access for a 36' boat, and it does not have a lot of head room. If you just want to go fast I think this would be a good boat.
The 39 is an awesome boat with lots of cockpit room and a nice cabin. I have not ridden in a staggered boat but I hear that they even ride better than the nonstaggered boats. With 496's the boat will run almost 80mph in a nonstaggered set up.
The 41' boat has the same running surface as the 39 just with a little more depth in the cockpit and 6' of head room in the cabin. You can run this boat hard and stay out of the wind and the boat is fast with not much power installed. The boat I would like to have if I suddenly got rich would be a 39 with staggered motors.

As for as chine walk I have never seen a 36, 39, or a 41 have a chine walk problem. When you add twinns that problem goes away, from what I have seen.

Hey Jax,

Nice to see you over at PBP.

I do not know anything about the 360 and have only seen two different 390’s run and they look like a missile going down the lake they are so long and low. I great looking boat but I think you sacrifice a lot in the cuddy on that model. One thing I have noticed from helicopter shots of the 39 is they seem to fly bow high a little, but maybe that was just the way they were trimmed.

The reason I’m responding to this thread is because I got to take my first ride on a Velocity this year and I also drove it for about 30 miles. It was a 410 with 525’s and the way the boat was propped we could only see about 80 MPH out of it but there were six people on board and the boat was equipped with a generator. The ride was very good and I could find those extra few feet of length compared to my 36 a few times in the rough water.

The boat has to have the tabs all the way down to come on plane and they had a switch on the throttle to control the tabs and the trim on the drives which made it easy. The only disappoint I had was that the dash area had a lot of rattles that I was not expecting to hear but overall especially in the cuddy I would give the boat a 10.

One thing to keep in mind especially if looking at a used boat is that Velocity is more of a custom builder and with the boat I drove it was built for the original owners body size and the drivers seat size and location did not fit me and the controls were positioned way too far forward to be comfortable to me.

Steve and his wife along with Clay seem to be nice people that are very customer service minded. They seem to have a good loyal following.

Happy Shopping
