With all do respect, I think I would have bought a boat that was complete to re rig, I would have considered that boat a total loss. I hope you bought that boat for less than they were asking. 10k for a completely bare hull is a bit much.
If i lived in the US i wouldnt of considered it either, but as i live in the UK it makes more sense as i am only paying import duty on the cost of the hull. That makes it a cheap hull here in the UK.
Whilst it is indeed stripped out, i am assured by Kenny that the hull is free from damage. If that turns out to be untrue when it arrives in england, ill fill it with soil and plant flowers in it.

10k for a striped vr1on a triler thats a deal!!! Go find another stripped hull that will run like a vr1. That boat is in great shape dont worry!!!
Yeah but he's basically going to have to re rig the entire boat with EVERYTHING. Cost of a good motor big$$, cost of an outdrive to withstand that big motor big$$. then you still have trim tabs, a prop, all the wiring, all the hydraulic lines, hydraulic steering, all the trim pumps, the entire interior, all the gauges etc etc. Its going to be an expensive project and it would have been alot cheaper to re rig a complete boat. But hey if he has the money to do it, which he must then more power to him. Sounds like fun.
I paid 15K for my hull less power/steering Because it was what I wanted.
A sit down project race hull.. Face it, owning a hi perf boat is like dating a stripper. They are a constant expense and cause problems. You cant look at what they cost .The day I stop to think"how much" is the day I start fishing. I just think of how many guys pay more for there power then I did to build my whole boat and I feel better. And at 10K his hull gets the ball rolling on a nice project which can be worked on as funds are available. And if he paid cash there is no interest thrown in the toilet.

If you cant afford hi perf boating,go fishing. the guy got the boat with a trailer and repairs for 10K. For about 40K he will have exactly what he wants, (if he not going crazy). Hense the term "project" I could have bought somone elses junk for less but it would been someone elses junk. I just put 15K into an engine and transmission for my 90 454ss pick up. I could have bought two nice ones for that. Money isnt allways the reason. I just think you are missing the point about why guys take on projects. I do it because I like things my way and I can afford it. Taking out a loan on a boat is an ez way to get one but the money spent on interest alone is in the toilet. He wont be far enough away from the value of the finished product where it doesnt make sense in my eyes.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion - thats cool. no sense bashing a guy cos he thinks differently.
However, Pit bull is bang on the money.
When it comes to performance transport whether it be car, motorbike or boat, i like to know my vehicle inside out. How many people have bought used boats to then find themselves replacing half of the mechanicals because basically, most people skip maintenance and think that it is an unnecessary expense. I have had a few boats over the years, some good and some not so good, and now i am at that stage in my life where i want the right boat (whatever that is). The other thing you must take into account is the Country that i live in - England, just about the most expensive place in the world to boat in. We have lost most of our boat builders over the years so the option of a british hull of any quality is small. A new 30' deep vee bare hull in England would run to approx' $45000 and still need rigging out.
So, $9,999 cash for a low use quality proven hull with trailer, even taking the cost of shipping and import taxes this end is bloody good value in my opinion, and after all thats the only opinion i really care about.

Oh one other thing to put it into perspective, I paid just over $10,000 cash earlier this year for a watch whilst in the USA on business and to be honest whilst the watch is very nice the Velocity VR-1 is much better value to my mind.
Now lets leave it at that unless anyone can give me any advice regarding handling, rigging or props or any other aspect of Velocity VR-1 ownership.
