Default Recommended Drive Height for a 280

I have 98 Velocity 280 and I'm thinking about swapping the lower for a -2. I currently run 90+ and have a bit of chine walk above 80 with a 1/4 tank and two adults. It seems like it gets worse with less weight in the boat. With 4 adults, a full tank and a 1' chop it runs pretty smooth. I have a stock B1 with a Hydro-Motive nose cone at 4" below the bottom.

Steve Stepp has them optimized from the factory for a 4 blade prop. -1 and a 5 blade "may" get some more speed but guys have experienced mixed results on speed and handling. Do a search as I think this topic has come up once or twice before.

The best advise will cme from Steve himself. Velocity is not like other boat companies as it is easy to get advise and help right from the top.

i tried it mine slowed down , you will need to go to at least a 5 blade to get the speed back

Default Height

On my old 26 prop centerline was 3 below the bottom it worked well at that height but only 4 blade props will get on plane and some round eared 4 blades would not get on plane at all.
My boat liked bravos best and when i put a half inch spacer in it it lost 4 mph.
In real rough water it stayed hooked up better with a deeper x
So if you want all around performance dont get to high .
If you can try it before you buy it that might be good you maynot like the high X
