Default Anyone running 5 blade props on their 280 velocity?

If so what 5 blade props have you tried? And how did they perform? I'm running 800+ hp in my 280 and trying to decide what prop to try. I'm running the 30p bravo from my last setup, but its way to small. Also getting a lot of slip in mid range with the 30p bravo 1.

My 260 loved the PX5 from hydromotive. It is the prop with the big ears or blades. My boat had over 600 HP and the bravos were terrible on it. talked to hydromotive and they had me try a 28 pitch PX5. Boat loved it.

My 260 had a 28p 5 blade hydromotive with a 500efi, i liked the prop but it ate my drive so i traded it for a 4 blade hydro.

That's what I'm worried about. I'm afraid I will love the 5 blade cruise, but not the broken drive. I have a 32p bravo 1 on the way so i'll see how it does and go from there.

Thats why I stay with the high slip numbers on my 4 blade hydro, and down some mph up top, cheaper than buying a new XR.

That's what I'm thinking, but I sure would like to have more grip at cruise. My cruise numbers at 3500 are in the 35% range.

I am only running a near stock 502 mag but find my mid range cruise with a Hydromotive quad 4 much better then a Bravo 1. The Hydro is a 27 reworked to 26 and tweaked by Hall's and the Bravo is a 28 again worked on by Halls. Top end is about the same but at cruise the Hydro is 4 to 5 mph faster.

Is the lack of slip causing the drive damage? If you take it easy getting on plane.....does that help?

I switched from a Bravo to the P5X on my 290SC (with a 525) and love it. It improved the hole shot a lot, and you can always control the drive loading with the throttle! The prop still has some slip at cruise speeds (it did improve over the Bravo), and it hooks up great at higher speeds and improves the high-speed stability of the boat also. I have not tried the regular P5 so I don't know how that would do on the boat, but it does have pointed tips and less blade area--might be the right compromise for you.
