New to forum with a question
Hi all
I'm new to the forum and looking to purchase my first performance boat. I'm looking at a
Velocity 290SC with a 525efi. I'm looking to go to the Bahamas and FT Jefferson once in a while.
What would the cruise range and speed be at 3500 to 4000 rpms ?
Thanks
Ken

Powerboat Magazine used to publish fuel consumption and speed by engine RPM with their tests. I'm pretty sure at least one 290 with a 525 was tested - perhaps in the 2004 Offshore round. The 290 owners likely have a better handle on the test report, no doubt can answer the speed question and perhaps can answer the cruise range.

Here is a video of the 290SC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfMxjdlrm5U
I have a 280 with a 496. With a stock Bravo one 26 prop the boat runs 48-50mph on gps at 3500rpm. I have never had a ride in this boat with a 525 but I would think it would run a similar mph at 3500rpm, maybe even a few mph's faster.
As far as cruise range, that will depend on how fast you want to get there lol. It should have an 80 gallon tank. From my calculations with the 496 I get about 3mpg at 3500rpm and 2mpg at wot. The 525 well burn a little more fuel at wot.
You can always call the factory. They are VERY helpful.

Thanks for the info but this one isn't going to happen. The wife said the cockpit is to small and the head is useless lol. The bolster seats are a little snug but would work standing.
Sitting was another story lets just say the wife's a little short

I have a 2004 290 with the 496 mag. I see my best at 35 to 3700 with a little over three nautical miles per gallon. But the 290 sc falls off the pad easily at under 50 miles per hour. Either your cruising slow or on plane at 50 plus.

I would have a twin engine boat with plans to make that crossing regularly. Even if you have a picture perfect day, the Gulf Stream can change to nasty seas in moments. The last thing you want is to be stranded out there waiting for assistance. A few twin engine boats will even plane on one engine and get you home at a slow cruise.
