Default 41 Going back in the water

It's been a 7 year hiatus since the accident but I'm ready to put her back together and get back to boating. I have a lot of damage to the rear quarter of the boat so while I'm fixing everything I thought it would be a good time to raise the drives. So much has changed in prop technology since she was built in 1996, the Bravos are deep and reliable even with the punishment she's seen but I'd really like to take advantage of the new 5 or 6 blade props on a much higher drive. Is anyone running higher Xs on 41's? How high are the drives and what props are working well? I'm putting the 675s back into her.

My staggered 390 w/525's and the flame 390 for sale both had the drives about 2-1/4" above the bottom. I believe the last 390 with 565's was also in that neighborhood. IMO, the staggered boats need the drives lower to help carry the bow. I like mine much better after dropping the drives 2". But, I did give up that cool rooster tail. Docking, planing, and all-around feel improved without losing any speed. I still have to dial in the props this spring, but I should end up with either 31 or 32 pitch labbed Bravos and will hopefully make some small WOT gains. I think you would want the drives to be 1 or 2 inches below the bottom to help carry the added weight of the 41 or for rougher water.

Got any pics of your boat, both before and after the accident?

This was the day of the accident. This boat was always perfectly balanced.

This is how she looks now.

Probably the best set-up, side by side 410 I can think of in the last 15 years, was Miami Show boat from around 2002/2003 which was on the cover Hot Boat. It had KE 675's and ran around 96 as I recall. The Eikerts were replaced by Ilmor's and then Steve Teeter owned the boat for several years. Seeing the boat run 10 years ago (time flies) at the spring Sarasota PRA event, I don't believe it had a high X. I believe the 2006 (not really 2008 as the ad states!) Eagle 410 (a staggered boat) did have a high x and likely used Konrad drives with 5-blades. I see it's for sale again ( http://www.powerboatlistings.com/view/30711). It's original big power was removed - not sure about its current drive situation. There haven't been an abundance of aggressive 41 set-ups and these are the best I know of. Incidentally, the konrads held up pretty well with the high X 390's, not so sure about the Bravo's!
