Talked to Carter last Thursday (8-7-08) and yes they are still making boats, however all new sales are run through a west coast dealer. Carter was telling me that they do not work directly with the customer anymore.

Interesting. Can you even still order a custom one or can you only buy the generic 496 models that the dealer has?

to the best of my knowledge you can still order them just as before, however business development (if you can call it that), is handled through this dealer.
