Lake Mohave
I'm thinking about heading up in the next month or so, I'll be coming from Phoenix. Where is the best place to launch? Any must do or see advice? I've never been and hear it's pretty and fun.

Cottonwood, or Kathrines Landing for launching. I think that you can run up river and get close to the bottom of the Hoover Dam but I know that its limited during certain times of the year.
When are you going?

Not sure when we're going, I just got an urge to check it out. Tentatively in the next 4-6 weeks.

Did you end up hitting Mohave? If so, how was it and where did you stay? I am deciding between a trip to Mohave or Mead over Halloween.
Thanks
Jon

No we didn't make it. I found a leak on my transom about the time we were going to go. Now I'm replacing swivel shafts, transom/drive gasket (culprit), bellows, etc. I'll have to try next year. Let me know how it is if you go. Have fun.

Thanks and sorry to hear of your issues. It sounds like the repairs are well under way. We decided on Mohave and will be staying at CottonWood Cove. I will let you how the place looks.
I am anxious to get out of Utah... It snowed here today! The Mohave forcast is low 80's.

Have a great time. I'm told it's a beautiful lake. Look forward to hear about your trip. I just talked to my mechanic and the boat should be ready on Monday. Looking forward to picking up the boat, the check... not so much.

Cottonwood Cove Area is awesome!! Go left or north and you can go to Willow Beach where the marina is. I don't think you can take an average boat any closer to Hover anymore.. Gets shallow if you don't have someone to follow but that area is way way beautiful.
Go right or south and you're in Lake Mohave right away but do that one first cause the wind picks up in afternoon and boy.... pure nastiness.
The road to get down to Cottonwood is interesting. Feels like you're going the wrong way and that there is no possibility of water ahead..

I hear ya Sleek, the bill is never the fun part.
Cottonwood Cove is awesome! Here are a few pics of the area. SDFever is right, boats over a certain length and HP (like 35hp or something) are restricted from going past Willow Beach. Going North puts you into a cool canyon that is very protected from the wind. Going South dumps you into a large bay heading towards Laughlin.
We went south the first morning going with the wind, 1' white caps not too bad, cruising around 50. By the time we got 3/4 of the way across the bay we were in the middle of 5' white caps with a 25' gap between them! As SD said, pure nastiness! We turned around with waves breaking over the bow and slowly made our way back to the marina. We almost put it on the trailer, but decided to try North and with in 10 minutes we were in a different world with just a ripple across the water! Also, saw some wild donkeys and big horn sheep on the shore.

Wow, sounds crazy. I can't imagine that lake could get 25' swells. Glad you had a good time.
