Description:
I have a 24 foot 1982 Squadron XII for sale. If you are new to Squadron XIIs, they were made by Don Aronow (champion offshore racer and creator of the Cigarette, Donzi, Squadron, and Formula marques). Squadrons are very rare for 3 reasons: 1) Don built them for only a very small number of years, 2) apparently after selling Cigarette, Don's non-compete with Cigarette limited him to 12 mono-hulls/year (hence Squadron XII)), and 3) they were built quite a while ago (early 80's). As such, they are very hard to find. Of those that do exist, a large number of them appear to have been heavily resto-modded, whereas this boat is largely original. I believe this 24' is even rarer. I believe it to be hull #1 (#1 out of 5 hulls (one other I believe is in Missouri, and another I believe to be in Germany. The others may not exist anymore)). I'll check that when I go to the place that I have it stored in a couple of weeks. The hull specs are 24' hull, 84” beam, approx. 40” draft, 24 degree deadrise. The boat was in good condition in Maryland when I bought it in 2009 (the 2 pictures of the boat on a hoist are from the former owner when I bought it) and I have used it exclusively in pristine, clear fresh water a few times a summer for 2 summers (summer of 2010 and summer of 2018). The rest of the time is has been stored indoors as I consider it a Don Aronow collector's item that warranted proper storage protection. As a result, it is in the same condition as when I bought it. I have very few pictures of it since I have barely used it as I have too many boats, but I include some initial pictures for your viewing. If it doesn't sell quickly I'll go to where it is stored and take more pictures in a couple of weeks. Note: I know the lady in the pic isn't a typical bikini-clad 20 or 30-something buxom blonde. It's my mother (now 87) out for a spin with me when I had it out for a couple of weeks in the summer of 2018. She has a masters from Harvard and thus she's discerning at the best of times, so I think the grin says it all. It's one of the only (partial) pictures of the dash that I have so I included it. All of the equipment appears to be original (original gauges, controls, engine (which had some performance modifications), etc. It starts right up and runs well every time and has no hesitation of going wide open throttle though the boat was mainly used for cruising (I have young kids) when it was used. I made no material modifications to the boat and did have a proper marine mechanic do regular maintenance on it. With the recent arrival of my third child 10 years after my second child, it appears as though this little-used boat will be used even less. I have the original bill of sale for the boat and a fair bit of documentation. This is a very interesting piece of rare offshore history that always brings people over to ask questions about it.
