VELOCITY Powerboats, built by Initial Marine Corporation, scored a triple victory at the 2005 Offshore Grand Prix this past weekend, August 6 &7, in Washington, North Carolina.
Once again the Initial Marine Corporation designed and built VELOCITY VR-1 hull proved ultimate supremacy against all other hulls including every "stepped and ventilated" hull entered. The weekend began in picture book fashion with the VELOCITY win of the 2005 SBI/APBA International Kilo Runs. F1-56's Steve Kildahl, throttle and Bob Spitulski, driver fielded the VELOCITY VR-1 to another victory with a two way average of 80.95 MPH with an Innovation built 425 HP Engine. "The weather was muggy and hot and the water dead flat," reports Bob Spitulski, "If we would have had a little chop or cooler temperatures we would have been bumping on 82 for sure." In Factory 1 race, F1-56 took the checkered flag chased by suitors from 2 other manufacturers. The hull design on the VELOCITY again took over for the win. The 2nd and 3rd place finishes went to boats with ventilated hulls. The VELOCITY was again victorious in both calm and rough water at the Washington, North Carolina location. The final VELOCITY victory of the weekend went to the P4-20 "Undecided" entry. "This boat is the hull design that recorded the first 100MPH run of any offshore V-bottom boat in history, back in 1981," said Steve Stepp, President of Initial Marine Corporation. "In fact, that hull is the basis of the new 322 that Initial Marine Corp. is producing in 2006."
