https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wj5zzHkIFWE I like the idea of the project. But would like to see the actual work being performed. Would help educate people on the correct way to do the work. Just My 2c. |

Episode 5 is up, In this episode we move things to the shop, where we look at the transom and stringer install. We talk about how the stringers were formed to fit perfectly to the hull, bonded in place, and we used 2408 fiberglass to glass everything in. The resin used is a proprietary resin Mark at Rage Powerboats likes to use. We also discuss the fuel tank plans and putting in the reinforcing tabs.
|
Here's a few shots of the process not in the video. I was out of town while Mark was doing some of it.

The next episode is coming this week, bulkheads are in, and going to start measuring for the new tank soon. Should move along well in the next while.
One thing I am thinking a lot about is the engine now. And, with the new Mercury's it makes it even more difficult. Here's what I am thinking. I was kind of sold on going with a 225 HP engine, for combination of performance and budget. 1. Mercury V6 3.4 225 - add after market solid mounts (digital controls) 2. Mercury V8 ProXS 225 (digital) add solid mounts 3. G2 225 - aftermarket solid mounts (digital) 4. Yamaha SHO 225 - aftermarket solid mounts (mechanical) 5. Racing 250R (comes mechanical only for now) The mercury V6 wins on weight, and price. The Yamaha is a close second. The 250R is tempting because out of the box it is excellent, already has solid mounts, would prefer digital, but not a deal breaker. A little pricey though. What do you guys think? |
Detailed article about the new Mercury Racing 250R and 300R:

Hey everyone, Episode 6 is up, we show the bulkheads installed, talk about the notch in the transom and if we are going to fill it. Plus, we talk about the new engines from Mercury Marine and Mercury Racing. We also add the Yamaha V MAX SHO 225 to the list of engine options, they need solid mounts but are good engines overall.
|
This is quick episode showing the support tabs outside the stringers glassed in. We ordered a 55 gal tank. Will start ordering more hardware soon. Then turn the boat over to blueprint the hull.
|
Who has the 22ft Activator molds now?
|
Measuring for the interior has started. Floor will go in. Filled the dash. You can see how the bulkheads were tied into the deck. That will be removed, along with
some other repairs to the deck. I think I'm pretty much decided on color, and engine. Notice that color difference in the faded blue: http://i66.tinypic.com/2qlhitc.jpg http://i67.tinypic.com/2dup9c.jpg Dash filled http://i63.tinypic.com/2qn2hk5.jpg |
Fuel tank arrived. More hardware to come, might wait for more progress for the next episode.

Hey everyone, a quick episode with an update on the tank, and some things that have to be fixed on the deck. Most of the coring is rotten on the deck.
Plus, we have some parts coming in. http://i65.tinypic.com/345l89w.jpg |
Some parts from Livorsi Marine came in. Vantage View gauges, not loving the white inner rim, but it's necessary for the LED lighting apparently.
http://i68.tinypic.com/15yyko8.jpg http://i66.tinypic.com/2zivmfa.jpg Loving this wheel. http://i67.tinypic.com/2cpvrdd.jpg |
Here is episode 9 of Project Activator, we look at the floor and the tank is installed. Last week we posted some pictures of new Livorsi gauges, but we changed our mind on the size and color, so we talk about that too.
And, we disclose the color we are painting it, plus a hint as to what engine we got. See if you can guess. |
Moving along, glassing in the floor.

Boat is going to be silver, and ended up going with different gauges. Oversize, platinum dials with black rim. I think it's going to look better.

Episode 10 is up. We look at the floor glassed in. Plus we turn the boat over and start blueprinting. We also talk about the engine choice and the paint we are going to use.
|
More details in the write up:

Interesting about painting the hullside black. Not sure I like it. Saw a Donzi painted like that recently, silver with black hull, looks okay. All silver would look better.

After a bit of a delay, episode 11 of Project Activator is up. We talk about the repairs, blueprinting and some of the features of the Evinrude G2, like the ability to switch between hand and foot throttle with a button!
|
Episode 12 is up. Getting the deck repaired, and ready to paint soon. We talk about final paint choice and jackplate options. This will have paint on it in the next couple of weeks, then the fun stuff.
|
Episode 13 is up. The Awlgrip hull paint is done. We filled the splash well, to make it seamless. Quick look at the Amera Trail tandem trailer we got too.
|
Episode 14, we have the tinted primer, getting ready to paint. We talk about the rub rail we chose, and a paint change.
|
Have an update soon. We have paint on it. Color is Porsche GT silver metallic.

Looks great!

We have an update, episode 16 article, video coming soon.
Article: https://www.wavetowave.com/home/2019...ing-and-update Started installing the Livorsi gauges, and test fitting stuff. This is not the seat we are using, it's just for fit. The 22 Activator has a really narrow cap, so took a while to find the best rubrail. We wanted a SS rail, but vinyl backed and found this rigid rail that is really slim, 3/4" SS rail. Bad picture, but it fits perfect. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...d135f553_b.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...eb6c492b_b.jpg |
Added the Finney's wind deflectors too.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...20bfebeb_b.jpg |
Getting the Evinrude G2 250 HO ready..
We are going with a 6" Hyraulic plate from SeaStar. It's their Gen 2 plate. The G2 has about 6" of additional setback because of the steering system built in to the swivel bracket. The 250 HO model we have weighs 537 Lbs, with steering, so without the steering it's actually about 500 Lbs. That's one of the lighter 250 HPs on the market when you crunch the numbers in real world weight. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...8f48c8a2_b.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...6f8d036a_b.jpg |
Measuring the seat shells for the new interior. Will probably be 29" from the floor, the shell in the pic is 33"
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...b455f048_b.jpg The silver really pops in the sun https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...5559c55f_b.jpg The small cap meant we needed a super slim rub rail, we found a vinyl backed rigid rail with 3/4 SS. Looks great. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...c5c627f9_b.jpg |

Well, we have the interior installed. Buttoning up a few things. Have to say, the interior looks better than I thought. Was a little unsure when I picked the color. Pics don't show the color well either. Have a few props to try yet, and wont' get a chance until next week. Ran great when we did a quick spin in the Long Island sound, some decent size waves. Love the sound of the big Rude. So quiet at idle, but has a nice deep sound when the RPMs get going. Boat is solid as a rock.
Have a Bravo XS 27", Fury 4 25", ProMax 28", and slightly modded Trophy Plus 26" to try. Attachment 576499 Attachment 576500 Attachment 576501 |
