Got my lights working on the dash..
.. I have the interior sorted out but need to build a new back seat.. it was a total redo.. I built all the frame work and worked with a local company called "U-vision it" they do killer work and tolerated all my details.. .. turned out nice https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...5342c6e713.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...bf9ae43a74.jpg Contemplating how this rear seat is going to unfold https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...cff9e41f77.jpg New base with storage..seat bottom and back...just need to tweak the angles.. remember this was a two seater before https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...722eb838a7.jpg Playi g with seat foam and seat height https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...915a55543f.jpg Once all frame work is at the uphol shop it must be reassembled on the bench to recreate the actuall boat angles https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...0561b265c8.jpg Funky corners will become storage for a passenger |

nice work

One of the coolest threads on OSO - love the project builds. Keep posting up pics!
Looking really good! |
Wow another great project with outstanding results. How long have you been working on this one?
|
Thanks Guys, that means a lot coming from you dudes! I've been chipping away since 2018 very slow start after the Pantera left. Still working on a house remodel at some level. Of course my better half feels that is more important. While it is, just not near as fun. I have had numerous set backs along the way. Covid damn near killed my business so there was a while I thought I might have to live in a tent... kidding but not really... I bought some used engines that turned out to be all used up and basically junk as far as I was concerned. My boat work environment has been less than desirable and I'm just not as fast as I used to be. In all honesty the last two yrs I've been pretty hard at it. I was supper lucky to get some of the last dart ultra tall blocks from the factory at the time. I also heard the foundry permanently shut down as well. Manufacturing in the states just isn't what is was... Seemed like anything I needed was on back order. Over a 1.5yrs to build the engines and fab the intakes. As I look back it seems nuts to me to work this long on a boat project but I keep the perspective that I am doing it because its the creative hands on and the thrill of dry pipes that keeps me going. At some level I need a project because it's how I'm wired. I'll post some engine stuff next

Ok. On to some horse pwr. Notched the block for clearances if course. Fab up oil splash guard. Jezel belt drive. Custom sheet metal intake. Couldnt order anything to fit anyway so pretty much would have to fab something to fit 11.2 deck ( I think that's what it is , cant remember). Anyway, seemed like everything was a custom project.

I ended up using cerakote on the intakes and valve covers to keep a pure aluminum look to them. Some of you maybe familiar with the coating. It is used on guns quite a bit. Now i have a ton of rigging to do. Nothing is the same so all the plumbing oil, water, coolers and electrical will completely be reconfigured. This took some time because i didn't want it to look crazy. Much to try and clean up and tuck away to keep as clean a look as possible. |
Baddd Assss!
|
progress looks awesome, I was just talking to Mark the other day about this and building a larger sit down boat than his 30...
|
|
Just prior to dropping them in I rewired all the battery lines and replace the fuel hoses. Added a battery switch and co figured to use eather battery of each mtr.. not sure why it wasn't done that way.....
had to make some stainless tube couplers for the water lines to make some tigh turns. One funky one through the stringer. . Also finished the fuel lines to the carbs. |

Awesome work!...I'm always curious when I see these extensive projects....are you in the marine business or a mechanic buy trade? The guy in the Northeast with the awesome turbine Skater jokes that he's a car salesman with a nice tool set...lol!

Lovin this build. Exactly the kind of hot rod I want.
What are the heads and cam specs? |

Have the engines been dynoed?
|
Ports in intake and heads appear huge to me but in this small/light of a boat….., let er eat!
|

Ok. So I have most of the dressing out completed on the engines. Still tons to do.. need new stainless marine pipe and other odds and ends. I have spared you some of how the sausage is made pics .. will need to do exhaust port transom work.

I soldered and heat shrank everything. God bless the snap-on butane iron. I giggle to myself every time i use it.

One word from me....incredible!
|
I could certainly be wrong, but I would think that at 28 deg total timing these engines are probably down 50 hp and I would be concerned with tuliping the exhaust valves or torching the seats. I wonder if the dyno operator ran them with more timing and they just didn't perform there. I know that some combos are sensitive to timing changes and some just don't care. It would be interesting to know.

EPIC project! Nothing cooler than 1 of a kind rigs.

I appreciate all the feed back. I enjoy looking at these type project myself. I wish more people out there were into doing the same thing but the turn key new boat thing with all the goodies is hard to beat.( expensive tho)
Seems like there use to be a lot more of the hot rodder rebuilds a decade ago. I guess the demographic is changing and i'm just an old schooler..lol Now that the engines are in and most of the bilge rigging is sorted out i needed to have Stainless Marine make a new pipe for the forward engine. It was quite the chore explaining to someone on paper/ email and the phone what i needed to some pretty darn close tolerances. Last thing i wanted was "buck tooth" looking exhaust pipes hanging out the back. Had to make sure the length and height worked out. Didn't want someone at the dock calling me out. I know this is obvious to you guys but i though you might want to see what i went through to get it done. It may help someone else down the road. Pics to follow.... |

Overall situation https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...b3d4c484fb.jpg This aint a straight shot. Have to make sure i put it between the carb and valve cover. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...61ffba5ba0.jpg Used one of the short pipes to reference measurements |
I lifted another short pipe and spaced it up over the valve cover to mock it up and check for clearances. I had to also keep the pipe the exact same over all length as the original to keep everything matching on length. Drew up some diagrams to email Stainless and keep it straight in my head as I went through it all.
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...3e5538af38.jpg Now i have something to work from https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...d9be80b719.jpg Im not an artist so cut me some slack |
At this point I needed a top dead center reference. This took two trips to Stainless and we did this in sections to make sure I had exactly what I wanted.. I must say Letty at Stainless was a total sweet heart to work with.. she and the team met with me on the phone and the welder just to be sure we were all on the same page.. they worked with me on each of my steps..
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...0b43ce969d.jpg Setting the height to then double down on tdc https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...588f288dd6.jpg This tdc will allow me to rotate the pipe to achieve the proper height. Then we can weld up the rest of the pipe. The welder had to mount this on his table and use the same reference point and weld level from that point on. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...64e4e9495f.jpg |
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...6c96f2d90f.jpg
The centerline is how i determined the offset distance for the next piece referencing the drawing. Again some of my pics are out of sequence https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...6e7bccef51.jpg Confirmation on length as i plot the next weld joint https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...e1c5e78c58.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...c762833c99.jpg Referencing a bleed hold on another pipe so the new pipe bleed would be in the same spot https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...fa899bf5e3.jpg Straight edge across the other pipes to confirm length sticking out |
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...e0dfe88b80.jpg
Perfect fit https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...632cf0b543.jpg Gaps are good..yea i know the banana yellow lift mtr is ugly..lol https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...ac78c157c0.jpg |
WOW looks Beautiful. Did you ever think about 2 into 1 exhaust or would that hurt performance.

Dude... Wow!!!

Now that the pipes are on I can cut some templates and get the glass work done on the transom around the holes. Obviously the holes were opened "up" and "out" with the taller block. Here we go again with debris in my clean bilge and then I'll have another mess to clean up. It is brutal doing things in random order and creating extra work but what are you going do.....
