Questions about the 37 Active Thunder

Hi All-

I know I am in the wrong section (being a formula owner and all) but I have always thought highly of Active Thunder Boats and am starting to look for my next boat.
I really would like a new 37 but can't afford one at this time. When was the first year that they made them? what are the changes that have been made over the years?

Thanks for all the help
Don

This is the only boat I like more than the 382 (I just bought my 382 in August!)....why are 2 Formula owners carrying on a conversation in the AT forum???
In 2000 they converted from a straight hull to the step. Don't buy the straight hull, just get a Sonic if that's what you want. :D Also, around 2003 they went to a cabin liner, these reduced interior space slightly and added weight (almost 1,000 lbs.) GREAT BOATS though, Sydways and a few others can confirm/correct my info as needed.

Impossible to find a good used AVH one with stock power. Since they are factory direct and don’t have dealers, they are priced nicely. Go for a ride….

I think Blown Rat and a few others might disagree with your first comment. I agree with the go for a ride comment.....but only if you are serious.....because the ride they provide is outstanding.

Thanks for the info. So in your opinion if I could find a 2000 to 2002 it would be a better boat than 2003 and newer?
As for the power question. I would like to find one without power becasue I have some ideas that don't include gas motors!

Thanks
Don

Like I said I'm not certain when some of the changes went into effect. The older ones will be faster though (lighter). Not many have been built so finding them is not easy. Formula has probably built more 382 this year than AT has built 37 total. A buddy has talked about selling his, but I'm not sure I believe him!!!! :D

I'll chip in here as well. Count me in as the third fella. I too am a Formula owner, '89 F311 and have gone down the path of looking at an AVH37 AT. Sweet boat. We took one with Pat out about 3 years ago and were sold. However we had to make a choice between a new home (log home) or upgrading the boat. Home won for now. AT is still high on our choice list and we will be revisiting Pat and AT in a few years. Solid ride, fast with lots of features.

I know there are 1999 models. I don't know if they were built earlier.

Pat bought the company from a guy in Illinois somewhere around the late '90s. He will be the one with the most info.

Major changes include of course the step. Some are stepped. Some are not. In 2003, a new top deck was designed. I have one of the first ones, (Monsoon). It makes for more headroom basically. Also, in 2002 you could get the "Millenium Cabin" which constitutes the full cabin liner. Some of the newer boats have been built without the cabin liner, in favor of some more custom interior cabin amenities.

dduck13 and Thunder Struck... when you are ready to talk more seriously; let me know. A new AT may be closer than you think.

Re: Questions about the 37 Active Thunder

I bought my first, then called, Thunder in 1993.

I built my first, now called, Active Thunder in 1994.

So the answer is anything tagged model year 1995 and newer is ours.

Seems like only yesterday.....

But the look on your face was priceless when, on Friday, you walked in and told me you were there to pickup a 25 and I was standing in an empty hull and told ya to come back Monday! :D

but I think I helped a little to get it done:eek: I thought I left on sunday???? whatever happened to that little cat mold that was there? I wanted to take that home with me so bad :( So did you ever hear anything about where that 25 went? I only saw it 2 or 3 times around here. I know that Sueter traded it for a 31 Volcity with all purple cockpit

Re: Questions about the 37 Active Thunder

We had #2 32 after Pat bought AT. We bought it right out of his backyard if I recall. I saw that boat for the first time since 97 last week end at my high and dry marina. Those 465HP's are still kicking even though the SOB that owns it sank half of it sometime earlier this year.
