Poker Runs
What Poker Runs will you attend this season?
I am looking at going to the Hudson River Run in June as well as the Jammin' Run in July. Anybody else interested in attending Hudson River? Also, what about the run in Atlantic City in June? I heard it was a decent event. Any info is appreciated. Pat |
Here was the list as of last week. There are a couple of smaller ones that I will go to that would be of no interest to you. The ones on this list give a lot of exposure to the boats, especially "The Big One". I have been told by 3-4 manufactures that they get more leads and interest in their product from this event than any other.
•Tickfaw 200-Springfield, LA-May 5, 2007 (Can’t make it now wedding) •TOPPS- Clear Lake, Texas -June 15-16th •Lake Travis Powerboat Associations Baja Shootout-July 21, 2007 (http://www.ltpa.net/ltpa/index.php?o...id=4&Itemid=27 ) •The Big One-Emerald Coat Poker Run- August 18, 2007 (http://www.emeraldcoastpokerrun.com/) •Sarasota Suncoast - October 5-6 (http://www.pokerrunsamerica.com/calendar.html ) •Key West Poker Run- Nov 6-12 |

The Cambridge, MD Poker Run in September is a REALLY, REALLY nice Class-A event.
TOP of the line facility. NICE marina Poker Run on Saturday Races on Sunday LOTS of HP and fun in town. Its usually the same weekend as the SML Wine Festival, so I get torn on which event to partake, but may do the PR this year. |
So far i'm doing
Ocean Marine in Portsmouth,Va. May 19th Jammin on the James July 14th Hampton Roads Powerboat Aug. 18th I would also like to attend another one somewhere in addition to our local ones. |
I still have not sent in my James entry but I will do that run or Chicago in July and then the run at my home away from home Lake Cumberland.
|
Pat,
I need your help convincing K that the Key West poker run is really our honeymoon. :D |
I wish I could get all you guys to do the 1000 Islands run in Aug, All the big dogs show for that one and it is the most beautiful area and water anywhere.
|
AC run is gonna be a good one!
I did the NJPPC barnegat bay poker run last year was great, I missed the AC run I think I am in for that one--Alot of fast outerlimits, cigs, cats--that is why I upgraded my motor I felt like a rowboat! I barely beat te pace boat w/ my 496HO.

YA it is cold but you can drink it,clear and clean--clean and the most beautiful settings and places to go that you will find anywhere and there are alot of place's to hang out and raft up where the water is warmer.
|
The 1000 Islands is one of the most beautiful waterways in the world; period. The poker run in Aug is awesome; also there is a smaller run in June based in Alexandria bay, NY. Last year there were 3 AT's out of 38 boats. It is a smaller run than the one in Aug and it is on the American side. The big run in August is out of Kingston, ON and is on the Canadian side. After 911 everything changed. Both runs are incredible. I will be at both, as well as thew SML in May, Jammin on the James & possibly Lake Cumberland.
|
spilman I will see you in June if you are there. Keep me posted:cool:

Great responses!
I am also interested in whether most like bigger events or smaller events. I guess smaller meaning 25-50 boats or bigger as in 50+. Obviously local is easier and more fun because it's convenient. How far would you travel to do a run? And if you would travel far, why? New location? Different water or atmosphere, etc. |

Cosmic12...I always go up to Alex Bay for both runs...we stay on the river near Jacques Cartier state park, about 18 miles NE of the bay. I've just started participating in the A-bay run...this will be our third year. We usually just spectate @ the big run in August...too many 100+mph big guns to try and run the 28 with! But this year we may do it anyway. We will definitely look for you.

Runnin' Down a Dream (and a Fountain)... Cambridge PR 2004 in Monsoon:
|
Pat, I would say I enjoy the smaller runs because it is easier to get dock space @ card stops and less confusion at the green flags...Wife always gets nervous with so many boats trying to get on plane in smaller areas...plus there is always one knucklehead doing something really stupid, putting others in danger. However, the 1000 Islands run is impressive to see...and they have been breaking into 3-4 groups to keep the spacing safe. Usually they get 120-140 boats. The Alex Bay run is almost the same run...only difference is the card stops are in American waters and the sights are awesome. It would be great to get more AT's thisd year...It is a long way for you S. FL guys, I've made the drive too many times!
|
Oh, by the way Pat...we tried the run up the Hudson in 2005 and found it to be a joke. I guess I am spoiled by the crystal clear water of the St. Lawrence River and great scenery...and shouldn't a poker run have more than one or two card stops? Personally the run was a 75 mile race and not much camraderie. The food stunk, the scenery up the Hudson is sad and the run is over in 90 minutes. Just my opinion. Maybe if you were riding with Bob Russell, Oliver Bock or Vinnie Rifice @ 150mph it would be a rush and the scenery would just be a blur so it wouldn't matter!
I'd love to come to FL next fall/winter for a run if we could get all the AT's together I'd make the haul. |
I have tried to get him to come up to the 1000 Islands many times but its just to far I guess. All anyone has to do is go there one time and they will be hooked and not be able to stay away. But it is a long ass haul for Pat and co.

We will definitely be taking Monsoon to Lake Cumberland, but probably not in the 2007 season due to the low water levels.
I really had a great time at that Poker Run last year. Chicago is a great poker run as well. I grew up outside of Chicago, so it was a great opportunity to run back on home turf/aqua; and take my Dad with me. I think I would like to do Jacksonville and Emerald Coast in the near future. |
What is the full story on the water levels @ Cumberland this year. I heard conflicting opinions on the effect the damn repairs will actually have. What do you think?
|
I REALLY liked Lake Cumberland, but I can't imagine trying to boat there with the reports that are publishing. 76 Falls will be 76 Trickle. I know the regulars will still be going, but I just don't think I'm going to make the trek this year when it will be SO much better next year.
|
Will be at the 1000 island's runs probably just as a spectator though, wanted to try Jammin but maybe next year.
have to rebuild the outdrive this year, but thats boatin:D |
So Pat, Whats up for this year? We'll be at the Jammin Run no doubt!:evilb::D
