Hydromotive On 25 At

Anyone ever try hydromotive 4 blade on 25 at.was wondering how the stern lifting props respond on theses hulls.trying to fix very high slip # 20% slip.what about drive spacers?

camptappakeg69 06-20-2007 06:40 PM

That's what's on mine, QIV -25, came with the boat, sent it to bblades and they thinned it a little and fixed a really bad repair. best I've seen this year is 69 at 5000 gps

R Addiction 06-20-2007 08:44 PM

Tried one on our Tantrum and was not impressed with the performance. To much stern lift , made the boat "plow".

camptappakeg69 06-21-2007 09:28 AM

Hey R ,what are you running again???.....Bravo???

R Addiction 06-21-2007 09:46 AM

I have a '97 Tantrum which I took delivery from Pat on July 4, 1996. I fussed for several years with props and consistently stayed with the four blade Hydromotive unit. I believe it is a 23P. Best ever top speed was radared at 73MPH, downhill in the intercoastasl in WPB. Engine has always been an HP500. Props. to me have been a bit of black art. The term "blueprinting" was the word before "lab" and prices became so ridiculous. I think I paid about $350.00 for my original Hydro unit. Aren't labbed props $6 or 700.00? Anyway, I tried Bravo units, the Hydro and a prop from a small shop in the Lake of the Ozarks area. He had been specializing in props for bass boats and ventured in to the sport boat market (Extreme Props?). The Hydro wasn't perfect but it seemed that I always came back to it.

My Tantrum was the last that Pat built in Chicago prior to moving his production to Pompano Beach. As i recall, Pat and his guys hadn't played with the"x" height yet. Perhaps my boat was not built for maximum speed, although my family and I have always been very happy with the performance. We never babied the boat. Pat had always said it was built tough and was at home offshore. We were never able to prove him wrong. We ran it hard. Pat re-did our upolstery in 2005 and we replaced all the gauges as well. Alas, the engine became tired during the Ft. Lauderdale Air and Sea show weekend back in early May of this year. Early diagnosis water reversion through the exhaust valves. Rust in the cylinder bores. It looks like a complete rebuild is required. Trying to decide what to do. I have regressed. the prop is still in great shape.

What do you plan on doing with that 23p Rev 4?I am currently running a 25p hydro QIV-X at 4600rpm and 67.5 mph and would love to try the rev 4.

awsomethunder 06-25-2007 06:23 AM

Just come out Friday night and stop fussing about the dam thing and drive it.

awsomethunder 06-27-2007 06:26 AM

daga if you wake up sun and your drive is gone you know where it is.taking this weekend off to work on the other boat to sell it.5 grand should get me a blower and i won't have to worry about you or the other thunder anymore:p :drink:

onesickpantera 07-09-2007 07:33 PM

Just a FYI. I love the Rev 4 on my Pantera. Runs within 200 rpm of my Mirage and almost as fast. Mid-range is great and the boat handles much better than it did with a Bravo. More bow lift than the Bravo too.

R Addiction 07-09-2007 09:41 PM

Is your Pantera a 24'? Would like to try a Rev4 just to see if works. Whats the weight on your Pantera also, Thanks:D

Yes it's a 24. Pantera lists my boat as weighing 4000lbs.

I tried a Bravo and a Hydro on my boat last year. The Bravo needed to be trimmed to the moon and threw the boat all over the place. The Hydro lifted the stern way too much and made the boat run too flat. The Rev 4 works great. It's like a 4-blade Mirage. It has a lot of rake so it gives good bow lift with little trim.

ACTIVESHACK 07-10-2007 08:11 AM

My neighbor replaced a 23 Mirage with a 23 Rev-4 on his 252 Baja with a 502. I ran the boat before and after for him. It picked up 4 mph at 3500 and 5 mph at 4000 plus 1-2 on the top end. It jumps on plane and needs alot less trim.

crb76 07-10-2007 08:43 AM

REV is an awsome prop! I gained 7mph on my CC with 2 labbed 25's.

R Addiction 07-10-2007 09:40 AM

Mark, does he have one I can try this weekend?:D

Yes forgot to mention cruise is much better on iy boat as well. My Mirage will blow out if I don't get on plane "just right". The Rev4 pops right up with less than half throttle.
