How fast with a 496 ho?

spilman 09-01-2007 10:37 PM

I coulda sworn we covered this...maybe a few times.
28 AT w/496HO =65mph
28 AT w/500efi = 71mph
28 AT w/ 525efi =75mph
28 AT w/t350mags =72mph

spilman 09-01-2007 10:40 PM

ooops...I meant 28 AT w/twin 350 mag MPI's = 92mph!

risky 09-02-2007 08:21 AM

496 ho speed

Never got past 63 mph when I had the 496 HO, swapped to a 525 efi and saw low 70's.

WOW! I know the 28 AT is "tough" to push past 70 with stock power....I have first hand experience. But, did you experiment w/props? I gained alot by switching brands, labbing, trimming diameter, and sending back AGAIN to Throttle Up for "fine tuning"
Just a thought;

The new ones will turn 65 with the 496HO. They can be layed up a little lighter now with updated products.

dlang, what colors do you want on yours? :D Drop me a line.

Do yourself a favor and stop your boat search with AT. They are sick boats, best 28' boat still made today. I have owned a 28 Nordic and Checkmate and the AT blows both of my boats away in the big water. Let Brian (Sydways) hook you up. You will not be disappointed!

28 thunder is fast roomy and handles the big stuff , talk to AT if you want new, talk to me if you want a blue motor boat w/ 60 hrs and mint....

spilman 09-03-2007 11:15 AM

risky, Is your boat listed in the classies?

risky 09-03-2007 02:21 PM

It was there then a broker took it but I probably will re-list in the classifieds..no really pushing to hard on the sale of it..

I had the first 28 with the 496 HO in my 2001 28 and let me tell you that it took a good 8 - 12 seconds to get out of the hole to plane with 3 people & 1/4 tank full but once on plane it ran good.

hmmm, what prop & pitch? My twin is a little tricky right when it comes over; feather the sticks and off you go...probably 5 or 6 seconds to plane.

I think it was the four blade bravo 24 prop. Just took a long time to get on plane, not enough to get out of the hole. This was the first 496 HO in the 28 AT. You need the 525 in that boat.
