ThunderRun!

I need some input here.

We've looked at a few other places to take ThunderRun in January. Just so we are all on the same page, Jan. 25- 27.

At the end of the day we are back to the Westin/ Sheraton in Key Largo based on reasonable costs plus if the weather goes south, it's not too far away.

Here's the link to their website:

http://www.keylargogrande.com

Should I keep looking around for something different or is this a good hub for the weekend?

Help me out here!

Thanks, Pat

Sydwayz 11-16-2007 07:42 PM

We liked the Key Largo Grande, and day trip further west for lunch; well, all but the shallow water at the fuel dock!

Apparently my lovely GF told Clark we were going this year. Can't commit yet, but we may tow down; may fly down. Maybe we'll give A. another driving lesson. :boat:

Pat,

Mrs. slboatdrinks says she prefers the Key Largo Grande and does not want to stay anywhere else.

P.S. We're in room 418.

Rates right now for that weekend are steep! $299.00-$449.00:eek:

That is a little steep, but it is the Florida Keys and besides money is no object anyway because we're all staying in 418.:D

Are you going to miss the Winter Chill Out? Reckless has it listed as the 26th on the HRPA web site??

JUPITER PULSARE 11-17-2007 08:27 AM

During the Jupiter Hot Boat event this past September, we rented the entire El Capitan section at Holiday Isle. The efficiencies are old but they were comfortable. We had all the boats in the Lagoone right in front of the efficiencies and the Rumrunners bar was adjacent to the Lagoone....I'm just not sure if your big boats can get through the shallow water to reach the lagoone. We had no problems trimming up the eggbeaters & idling...water was about 3 feet deep. It was great because you could see your boats right outside the windows in the lagoone, we had great evening bar b ques just outside our doors, and the Miami Vices and Rumrunners were only 25 paces away!! not too mention the great view each evening. Made quite a few loops from the bay to Tavenier Creek and back to Holiday Isle, there's some great snorkling within minutes at Alligator Light also!!

Three things come to mind here
1. It's going to be too cold for to go
2. Your boat does not seem to like long trips anyway
3. Nobody is going to get near you and a hottub with the way your pants fall down
:p:ernaehrung004:

ActiveThunder 11-17-2007 09:54 AM

It's not the long trips his boat does not like. It's stopping for fuel that it hates.

slboatdrinks 11-17-2007 10:21 AM

The rates are comparable for all 3 hotels. I vote Holiday Isle out due to the age of the place.

:D

Are the 700's that thirsty or did he do what I did when I first ran my boat with less than 1/2 on the gauges?

I was fortunate to make it back to the marina....on fumes.

Ditto..I was 1 mile short of the pompano inlet. I used 187gallons on the way up (700's were very effecient) and 218 back, well, I should have had 219. The problem with the smartcraft is it must be balanced out on the %..When on plane it would show more cause of the attitude of the boat, but as it got down it worked very much like the gas guage, it went very quick. So a 1/2 tank does not really mean a 1/2 tank unless balanced. The other thing it was nasty, solid 6' and a few 8's so Im certain that also disrupted it's accuracy. Good lesson to learn, I figured I had enough, throttling the whole way back was a pita, but thats where the extra fuel must have went, unless Pat cifened it out at lunch:D

chuckbeecher 11-18-2007 07:34 AM

You can never have too much gas..unless you are on fire!!:D:D

could 've been those hang me downy things on the corners of the boat.........................

1. I agree here
2. neither did Radio Active, we ran out of gas here also..
3. those were all accidents, and I thought you liked my blinding white azz

Macklin,

Its usually a 4 day trip, Friday - Monday, about 100 miles one way; with optional lunch treks each day.
It does not sound like a hotel has been chosen yet, but unlikely they will allow pets. We got caught in some big water both of the last two times returning from the Keys. It may not be a pleasant ride for her.

We'll talk more about if we can get the logistics together for your boat and my truck/trailer. We need to look at the calendar and see if its something MS and I can work out. I am kind of partial to leaving Monsoon inside all winter and getting her nice and pretty for next season.

I guess its going to be tough to keep this on the D.L.; next thing you know--Bill is going to want to come too! :D :D

Well, first he needs to replace that avatar with "CLarkStarMan" if he REALLY wants to try and join the cult.....

cosmic12 11-18-2007 09:16 PM

AAHHAA....... So do you admit to being the leader of this new cult?..... :circle:

I think we should try the Marriott for the Cult Run. The web page says they have a Casino boat. :D :drink:

Well, wouldn't you know it, but the $50M project we are currently designing, and they promised I could be the PM on when they offered me the job here, has a final submittal due the week after the Run. Mother F'er!

I'm not ruling it out yet, but need to discuss with my boss who is out this week. Might not be a good move for me professionally. :(

Thanks again Brian! I'll give you a buzz next week.

crb76 11-19-2007 09:18 AM

Well Macklin, If you cant go then Bill cant go. I was looking forward to him bringing his ruler to measure wave heights! ;)

Spoke to Pat and Jay yesterday at the shop. Pat is having trouble posting, but is still looking for input as to where we should go.

Key Largo Grande hotel: Good docks, limited amenities.
Marriott Key Largo: Ok docks, lots of ammonites.
Holiday Isle: Older facility, lots of amenities.

Decision will have to be made soon.
