AT OS Differences??
 

I notice a new listing in the classifieds of a '99 37' OS. Are the only differences compared to the current crop of 37s that it doesn't have any steps? Is it heavier, being older? Is the shape the same otherwise. How does it compare in build quality to the new 37s?

Its the same boat without the step. Probably slightly heavier as well compared to newer ones.

It says it runs 73mph. A newer stepped hull with 500's will run about 10mph faster.

Griff is right on the money. The step boats are about 11-12% more efficient. The old school straight bottom ATs are definately wave crushers. That boat was built without a cabin liner that drops in and forms the cabin in one piece, as how most of the new ones are made. Since that boat is a little older with some older layup technology/schedule; yet it does not have the cabin liner, its still around 9500 lbs. dry.

In 2003, the deck mold changed for the 37ATs. The 2003 and newer models have a bit more of a curve to the deck, rather than the flatter deck on the pre-2003 models, as the one shown here. The newer deck provides a bit more cabin height, but the model in question is not lacking. Only if you were really keen on the boats could you tell the difference sans a tape measure.

That boat looks to be pretty clean, and I am willing to bet a few OSO members will know the boat if you ask about it in the General Discussion forum.

That is a nice boat and a good price. It wouldn't bug me at all to have a non step. Glad to finally see these start showing up 4-sale. The only thing I can see in the difference other than the head room is man the cabins have come along way. I'd like to see that in person. If only I could I would. Thats only the 3rd one that has come up from what I have seen, and the others were beat to death this one looks real nice.
