Lake Cumberland

I know I've got a few days but we are trying to make plans for our annual trip. Is anyone interested in joining us for a weekend of houseboating, poker running and partying on the weekend after Labor Day?

chuckd1025 03-16-2008 12:40 AM

I definitely will be there, I have a house in burnside thinking about renting a houseboat for that weekend though....Were you thinking of getting one to just keep at the dock or actually tie up in a cove? Last year I got one and just left it at the dock and it was one hell of a time...

boatfreak 03-16-2008 07:17 AM

Lake Cumberland is our home dock. We have a friend there with a houseboat that we stay with often but we are thinking about renting one with some other friends. I would like to tie out for 3 or 4 nights then come in to the dock for friday and saturday night.

Well hi stranger.:D
The run is Sept. 6th. There is a good party on the dock both Fri and Sat. nights but being a "dry" county we MUST stay on the dock. I had two friends picked up for dui last year, one on a moped and the other on a pontoon inside the marina. It may sound bad but there are allowing us to have a big party right in front of them so you just have to play by the rules.
Yes the lake is still down and will be for years to come but it has no affect on the run. I doubt you will find less than 75 ft of water anywhere on the run.
Let's get together and make another Thunder Run out of this.

This is a great run. I'm putting it into the planner.

Maybe for us, but no boat.

ImaPoser 03-16-2008 12:12 PM

I don't recall seeing a single AT on the poker run last year.

Maybe I was going so fast you couldn't see me.:D We've done this run every year since about '99 and in a Thunder since '01. As I've said earlier in this thread we stay with friends there at State Dock and I tie at there boat not at the docks out front. If we get a group of us in this it will be no problem getting them all tied together.

Well dang it, I went through all my photos and didn't see you. :( I thought I snapped a pic of every boat as it came in for the first card stop. I've been infected with the AT bug since I joined OSO and have wanted to see one in person since. I

Edit- Ok. I just had to look harder. I would have remembered if I saw it at the dock during lunch.

Mike,

Hard to tell from the pic, but is that B. Smallwood with you?

Or should I say Bob and Shari?

boatfreak 03-16-2008 07:43 PM

Sorry I wasn't hiding. We are there a few times a year and every year we do a ten day stay from Labor Day weekend through the run.

boatfreak 03-26-2008 08:24 PM

I missed that edit with the pic. Yes that is the Smallwoods with us. They have made it up the last two years. Now what about this year? Who would like to come to my playground for a great run?

We'd love to, but would need a ride.

Dates?

boatfreak 03-26-2008 08:46 PM

The run is the weekend after Labor Day. I think that makes it September 6th this year. I think we will get there on Monday or tuesday and head home on Sunday or even Monday after the run. This run is a blast with the houseboats on the docks. I would offer up some seats but I'm full. Bob and Shari will be back again this year. I did talk to Mark today and he's thinking about this run and even Pat so you should be able to get a right. To get the best houseboats and the best dockage together we need to figure things out and get it done.

flenner 03-26-2008 09:14 PM

We have been every year except '05 ( We got married that weekend). We have our anniversary there know. Have a group that comes from Nashville and we love it. Were not able to get a room at the state park so still don't know were we are going to stay. Boatfreak, hope to see you at the Kentucky Lake Poker Run!

I don't think our plans will allow it, so we're out for now.

I'm going to do either Destin or Lake Cumberland. Just have to make the choice of which.

f311fr1 04-05-2008 10:39 PM

I have done both. Destin is the better run.
