2009 37 Excess with twin 710 Ilmors...
1 Attachment(s)
We're ready. Are you?
Pat and I have been kicking around some new ideas for the 37 Excess this year. We see some advantages with the Ilmor 710 like fewer moving parts, lighter weight (probably 800+ lbs. total weight savings for twins, using an Imco drive or similar), back to a "trademark" flat and padded sunpad, also lending to a sleeker bilge and associated rigging. We are researching warranty options on the Ilmors as we speak. If anyone is ready to seriously talk about some brass tacks, you know how to reach me. :boat: |
Sounds like an impressive package. With the weight savings...WOW!!

Good luck with that one. I have heard mixed reviews on the package and have heard nighmares about the the support! Mercury Rules for a reason!

These engines have to be staggered. If not you'll get left behind. :Whatever:

c'mon...Where's the Diesels and ASD-8's:D
|
Alos the not utilizing a blower like the Mercury 700 .... The ILMOR has a fuel burn rate of 43 gallons/hr compared to the Mercury which is 66 Gallons /HR ...fuel saving as well as as weight savings and yes .... less to break on the ILMOR :cool-smiley-011:

Let’s face it! I like efficiency but my fuel cost, even paying $4.60 per in the Keys the last 3 months, is only 10% of my boating cost per year. So with the 700SCI package versus the 710 Ilmors it will be 11-12%! : Whatever: I rather have Mercury, more fuel burn, and piece of mind for my 1-2%.

No drive for Ilmor is the other issue. That would be like putting a bravo style drive mated to the Merc 700's...Just a matter of time..with no piece of mind BOATS OVER 600'S NEED TRANSMISSIONS...except A.T.s...cause they never break, and the owner is the nicest guy in the world.:p:D |

Anything between 674 and 676 HP will break sans a transmission. The 7/10 (700HP) will be fine. :p

Out of curiosity, how much is fuel in China? Before you go crazy about how cheap it is, they are having shortages as the refiners will not produce more gas or diesel as they are losing money. By the way, the Government sets the price, the Government owns the retail outlets, the Government owns the producers and the Government owns the refiners. The fuel is very low quality. It is inconsistent in BTU content, many times contains water and particulates. It is a real issue for manufacturers. Since the Government owns the entire system, they will not allow any foriegn refiners to come in and set up shop. They do not want the competition (from a quality perspective). Probably more than you wanted to know, but I am setting here waiting for my driver to pick me up and take me to the office.:cool-smiley-011::D |

It costs about 5.20 RMB per liter. At 7.1 RMB to the Dollar, that equates to about $3.20 to $3.30 per gallon.
