Lh Prop On A 28

I Am Working On The Same 28 Thunder As Steiny. Can Someone Tell Me About Why To Run A Lh Prop On The 28 Thunder? Also.... I Was Testing The Boat Out, It Has A 4 Blade 24 Now And Seems To Have Alot Of Prop Slip 4800 Rpm At Best And Saw 68 Gps. Alot!!! Of Porpise At Top End. Does The 28 Thunder Typically Porpise? And Will Just A Liitle Tab Make It Go Away. We Need Some Help... This Maybe The Last Weekend To Test Before It Gets To Cold. We Do Not Have Heated Storage For This Boat And Will Need To Winterize Soon. Cant Wait Until Spring To Do This. It Will Bother Us All Winter If We Cant Get This Bad Ass Thunder Running The Way It Should Be. And Yes.... I Am A Sonic Owner But I Love The Thunders The Same As My Sonic. They Both Are The Coolest Boats On The On The Water. Just My Opinion. Thank You All In Advance For All Your Help. Think Spring

The only thing that I can comment on is the porpoise at top-end. I have never experienced that.

Also, 24P seems small...

boatfreak 10-16-2008 01:16 PM

I ran a 24 lefty on my 496 boat for nearly 300 hrs and I never saw it porpoise. I would think that thing would pull a 26 with ease and maybe a labbed 28.

slboatdrinks 10-16-2008 01:35 PM

Try a lefty B-1 26.

Single screw boats naturally torque to the right. The left handed prop offsets this some what.

If you're porposing at wot, you're most likely trimmed to high.

What year is it? I never had a porposing unless it was trimmed to the moon.

I'm dropping off a 26p labbed, 26p stock and a 28p stock all LH for him to try sat. and he already has all of my RH props. I think we will figure this thing out this weekend. Thanks for all of the help guys. we will let you know how we make out with it.

ActiveThunder 10-16-2008 06:29 PM

slboatdrinks, boatfreaks and you all had/have the original hull. Cosmic and Glad have the new one taken from the 32.

The original 28' would torque too much out of the hole and that is why we tossed the LH on it.

I will also say if there is a 24 on her, somebody changed it. 26 was standard. Looks like you have a few others to try this weekend from the Sonic guy. I like having that 26 stock and 26 labbed back to back. Those are my choices. The 28 will be a waste of time.

Let us know how you make out!

PROMAN 10-17-2008 04:46 AM

His Name Is Eric. He Is Part Of The Williamsport Pa Boat Gang.. Better Known As The 3bc .. The Boat Is A 01 28 With 500 Efi Stock. He Was A Baja Owner And Should Be Joining The Oso Gang This Winter When He Gets Some Down Time. We Will Keep You All Posted With Our Progress And Results Of This Weekend.

Well we ran it today. 26p stock bravo1 LH. 4900rpm @ 68 mph. with no porpise. Switched to the RH 26 and ran 4800 to 4900 @ 68 to 69 mph it was hard to read with all of the porpise. Goning to try the labbed 26 sunday, I think it sould run alittle over 5000rpm and 70mph. But all in all the LH prop took the porpise away.

I'm guessing that she should gain 250 rpms and run 71.5 with the 26 labbed.

Now I do have to ask why the heck a righty would make it porpoise.....

go propless 10-19-2008 12:31 AM

You tell me because we made 4 runs with the LH . around 1 mile per run and with the LH she didn't porpise, then we change the LH to a RH and every run she popised?????
If you ran the tabs down alittle with the RH on it would take out the porpise. but dropped the # to 4800rpm and still around 67 or 68 mph??. I have twins so this confuses me??

PROMAN 10-19-2008 07:06 AM

I Watched It From The Docks And The Boat Ran Awesome. Lh Prop Looked To Run The Best. Boat Ran Real Flat No Porpise.cant Wait To See It Run Today With The Labbed 26. Hope You Are Right And It Runs 71-72. Only Problem With That Is I Will Be Eating His Exhaust Come Spring. Somethings Never Change When You Run With Buddies That Have Thunders.

rssteiny 10-19-2008 07:34 AM

The boat did run much flatter with the lh prop, so how do you change the shifter over to work with lh prop.

You just pull the throttles out and if you look at the shifter you will see it can 'push' or 'pull' depending on which side it is connected. Just swap it over and then you won't have to shift to reverse to go forward.

Let us know how the testing goes today.

Sounds simple enough thanks pat

Did you run or was it so cold you stayed inside at a bar watching the FB games?

go propless 10-20-2008 07:29 PM

No The boat was in but without the labed prop. We didn't relize that the XZ drive runs the larger prop-shaft than mine, and the 26labed has a solid hub. So were workin on finding one. But we all think that will be the ticket.

Thanks for all of your help see you at the boat show.

Griff 10-20-2008 10:05 PM

There is a LH labbed 26 listed in the swap shop also.
