Changing tides......

I just wanted to take a moment to help my fellow boaters.

If any of you come to Florida for the winter months and need advice about the local waters, including seas, tides or launching step bottom boats in water that does not resemble mud, please feel free to e-mail me at:

[email protected]......

We don't have any ramps down here big enough for that boat!

I know, seems like we are launching the titanic every time.

BTW, what day is good to go to Shooters?

Never..... (my opinion only)

If you're in Lauderdale go to Bahia Cabana. If you're further north like Delray Beach go to the Banana Boat.

excursion 01-27-2009 03:56 PM

Ok, we are staying at the Bahia Mar marina for three nights, it looks like a pretty nice place ??? What do you think.

Will check out those others places. What days are good to go to those places??

We are putting in at Ft Pierce Inlet and ending up in Key Laergo, probably gonna come down the ICW alot, the wife like to sightsee.

Bahia Mar is good and you are 'up front' for Las Olas and Lauderdale beach front. Easy run down to the Keys too.

If you come down the intracoastal stay inside to Palm Beach. Forget going out Jupiter Inlet unless you want to see "humpty-dumpy" take a great fall. (sorry, had too!) Pretty Nasty inlet if not perfect conditions.

Palm Beach south on the inside is ONE SLOW RIDE. Go out if it's good water. Stop in Hillsboro Inlet and bear left to the ramp. THe Active Thunder courtesy shuttle will pick you up from the ramp @ 4:00 for happy hour and take you back to your boat at 6:30 to continue your adventure southbound.

Anyting else? Need the tide schedule??

excursion 01-27-2009 08:38 PM

Thanks for the help, is the Bahia Mar ok ??
Would you stay somewhere different? If so let me know so I can change.

We are staying at also staying at Key Largo resort Marina Delmar
is that a nice place ??

Is there also a place along the way that you would recomend to goto??

Someone on here should volunteer to jump aboard and be your tour director/guide.

Jupiter inlet is pretty straight forward. Boynton is the treacherous one. Run straight out Jupiter and once you pass the jetty veer off to the south (at low tide veering north may put you in 3 ft of water).... http://www.evsjupiter.com/main.htm

Palm Beach inlet (officially called Lake Worth) is deep (35 ft ++) and straight forward. Boynton and Boca Raton are ok with local knowledge.

ActiveThunder 02-01-2009 07:23 PM

Yeah, and what are you taking out Jupiter??? That bass-boat?:party-smiley-004:

You got me confused with your former co-worker......he is Jupiter Pulsare/ he has a very fast flat water boat.

I have a 32 Sunsation, not as fast as J. Pulsare but can be used in more than flat water......

Hey guys, How'd I get dragged into this???? LMAO! Pat, it may not be an Active Thunder but it's no bass boat either!!! Anytime you want to take a ride and try balancing a 21' boat at over 75 MPH on the pad I'll be happy to let you take the helm!,,,and Jupiter Sunsation is correct. Jupiter is not that bad of an inlet unless you have an outgoing tide with a decent sized swell coming in. My "bass boat" er..Checkmate Pulsare has been in and out of that inlet dozens of times with no problems. I've taken a few misty ones over the bow but that's half the fun!! Hope to see you guys at the Miami Show! Jupiter Sunsation, we'll have to hookup and hit the county line sandbar one sunday...by the way, Guana Banana is now open and has boat dockage (if you can fit under the bridge by Burt Reynolds park)..Great waterfront restaurant/bar!

I saw that last week when I took my kids out on the Whaler. I can easily get back there with the Sunsation, just have to use the south bridge and come around the back. The north bridge (right next to ramp) is too shallow as it rounds towards the ICW. We went to the Countyline sandbar last weekend and it was full of starfish/sea urchins at low tide. Kids had a blast......

I may hit the sandbars on Sunday the 15th. Let me know, we can make a day of it!

Here's the story. By the time we get to the ramp I can see we don't have enough water so I call my buddy and resident expert on this kind of thing and ask him if there is another ramp in the area or if I should just wait on water. He tells me to just wait it out so we go to lunch, have a few beers by the beach and return to the ramp a few hours later. Things are better but it's coming in fast so we wait another 30 minutes there and then slid the boat safely into paradise.
There was no mud involved or hurling of trailers off the end of ramps, at least not on this day.
I'm headed back to this ramp next Wednesday so to avoid further torment I think I will check the tide table in advance.:drink:
