A/T driving skills.
I would like to see what input you guys have on this one, what difference in driving technique is there when going from a traditional non step deep vee to the single large step A/T ? I have ridden with Pat and wow what an experience but wanted to know what basic pointers you guys have. I am signing up for the tres martin school this spring but since its winter and cant drive it yet I thought i would throw it out there.

It's pretty hard to "mess up" the DDC/AVH AT, but there are two golden rules to any step bottom boat.
Don't trim in when turning. Keep them trimmed out to keep the transom planted. Don't rapidly decelerate when turning. This will also loosen the back of the boat, and get you out of shape. |

Lasz, Did you pick up the boat yet? If not I'm not far from it and we can take it out when it warms up a bit...We'll figure it out one way or another!!!!:grinser010:

He's picking it up at 9AM tomorrow. He's picking up his trailer (from me) tonight.
|
Got your text Brian...Wish I could go but I'm helping my brother out tomorrow.:angry-smiley-038:
|
Just picked up Brians Trailer and picking it up for the haul back home in the morning, should be fun in the snow white out we had on our way down here as well as DC traffic with 60' of truck and trailer.

You bet and Thank you, I will have it as good as new by spring, got it at my friends shop here in MI, Kustom Marine and he does great work. Getting the deck sanded down and re cleared to start then from top to bottom retune, will be ready for may 21 tres martin training class here in MI. Looking forward to the season.
|
Glad your trip went well. Good luck with her....:ernaehrung004:

Congrats on getting her home and in the shop! I just noticed your updated boat descriptions. Is 'Energy Crisis' going to be her new name?
|
You bet ! We will have a official renaming when it comes out of the shop, have to do it right with a champagne toast. Still have to meet up with you in person one of these days.

Yeah brian was telling me the story on the 180 turn they did on it, I cant wait to put it through its paces with a pro on board. Have to get it back into tip top shape again so we look good out there.

Congrats again :ernaehrung004: If I remember right I think Tres did a class on your boat at SML with Rich about 3 years ago so he's familar with the boat.
We did the "On water" portion on Rich's boat. AT's are not much different from the boat you have, except you won't trim out as much and the pivot point will be more forward. The big difference will be in the ride. |

He is still spinning that yarn??? Did he begin by saying "one time; at band camp". . . . . . It was a turn - yes we did turn around, but it was just a turn, nothing special. In fact we did about 20 of them as we kept running back and forth in an area close to Rich's house. |
Bill you will have to show me the turn this spring, would love to see it. Faxing over my form today.

"The Turn"
:D Rich and I talked about the turns in class. Bill and I talked for a while about them too. Rich said that there was one that was REALLY fast; as such faster than he would volunteer to do. That's all. :D Laz, the real question: What does Linda think??? |
Well I took her to the shop this morning to see it for the first time and she is all smiles, who wouldnt be ? Brought back memories of the demo ride with you and Pat, what a rush that was flying up towards the beach. We are gonna get a small parts list together for any items that need replacing and will contact Pat at the factory to order them up, the drives and such are all getting checked to see condition and seals as well as repainted, and all hardware polished up as well. Props heading out to BBlades and going to add in some anti slip on the swim platform and clear over it so I done end up on my butt as you pointed out may happen. The top deck has to have the clear completely stripped and hopefully we dont have to reshoot any of the paint work and just reclear it, as well as touch up some of the nicks, otherwise it is not that bad and just needs a real good clean up job and replace the carpet inserts. Going to do the motor leak downs later in the week and will see how they are doing as well. Very excited about the project and cant wait to put it in the water.
|
Are you replacing the interior?
|
The cabin interior is actually in excellent condition, the cockpit is just dirty from sitting in the weather and looks like it should clean up pretty nice, just need some minor replacement parts, otherwise the major thing is top deck paint and drive clean up.
