100 mph
How much hp will i need to run 100 in my 2000 32 thunder, also will i need nose cones.
|
My friend has an active thunder running over 100 mph. What an incredible ride. The throttle and GPS feel connected. He runs 45 mph at 2000 rpm and 105 at only 5000 rpm and gets there in a heatbeat with twin 850 blower engines and on Bravos with Imco lowers. I feel there is a lot more in the boat but he does not want to push the drives or the hull capabilites at high speed.

When mine was originally built, it had +/-750hp blower engines. Member Drag n Ass had it built. He said it ran 103mph. Mine had/has nose cones and also ext boxes. Mine also weighs about 500# more than Audacity. You will need nosecones above 90mph to see mph gains in line with the hp increase. I'm guessing 700hp and completely dialed in would get you there. You would probably have to switch to a 1.36 drive ratio or you'll most likely run out of prop.

Thios will be a fun winter project. :drink:

What engine and drive package are you considering ? we are starting my project at the end of the month as well.
Rick ps will also consider selling my b1 drives as well 1 was redone 2 years ago and the other this summer. What are you going to do to yours. |

Building my 500hps to 540 ci and adding some good headers, as well as changing the lowers and upgrading the uppers to xrs. not sure what lowers to get yet. my head work was done last year and cams are crane 741 the boat had 90 in it this summer if i would of got it proped right, i would hit 86, 87 on gps at 5500 and in the limiters. i have stock gill exhaust only 1 year old manifolds and the tall anti reversion tails that i will be selling any time now.

Building custom whippled 509's 750 Hp range, selling off the XR's and either Billet marine Xr's with Billet IMCO lowers or if we can get a good deal on ASD-7's then go that route. Will leave the drive decision for the end to see what the best option will be, looking to see 100+ as well for those fun flat water days. Arneson had told me that the A/T step hull was designed to run with ASD's so would love to get some feedback on that option as well, would be one hell of a setup.
Thanks |

Ummm....really.....
The boat would work great with the Arnesons as Harry Shoel designed the bottom to work with Surface Drives. Cost wise, our #7M's have replaced our ASD6's as we upgraded the power rating and a lot of other things, but fit the same installation window as the ASD6's did. The #7M's list at $$$$K each complete from the bell housing rearward. Bellhousing Drive Plate Transmission with oil cooler, hoses and fittings BAM 1350 Transmission Drive Line Rear Engine Mount Arneson Standoff Box (covers your Bravo cutout) External Steering Cylinder with hoses and fittings External Trim Cylinder with hoses and fittings #7M Drive, RH or LH rotation, 1.32:1 or 1.56:1 reductions Helm Unit Mounting Hardware, bolts, studs, nuts, washers, etc.. |
Remember that Harry played with the early Pulse drives on the DDC hull(s).
The basic theory behind the DDC/Active Thunder step hull design is such that the back of the step, the edge of the transom, and the propshafts are designed to be on the same plane, all things being equal. (However, some drives and prop packages provide more or less transom lift, hence some adjustment in X-dimensions.) |

I wouldn't say no.
But you are going to have some learning to do. The options have never been fully explored. |

I would think about going with solid lifter cams and spin the crap out of the mills to get to N/A 725 hp, maybe 6000-6500 rpm. That way you are not making a lot of torque at low rpms that eats the drives.
You need to change the rotating assemblies to get 540's anyway so make it handle the extra rpms. Let us know how it goes. |
At 6000 rpm, 1.5 ratio drives, 30" pitch b1's and 10% slip you will be right at 100 mph. Obviously everything above 6000 rpm is gravy.
|
You don't even have to change props!!!
|
A N/A 502 can make 600 hp with 1.2 hp/ci with good heads and increased compression good cam etc at 5500 rpm. A 540 with the same 1.2 hp/ci will be 650 hp at the crank which will probably not get you to 100 mph. I think you will have to increase the rpm range of the engine and maybe some other mods to get to 725 hp/side to get the 100 mph.
Bob Madara did make 725 hp with a 540 hp for one of his customers last winter. I would give him a call. |
How about blowers on 502s?

But you are going to have some learning to do. The options have never been fully explored. proper set up.. and this is where RIK comes in. Even though the ASD-7's are designed to be a direct bolt in to the breakable bravo's, the design characteristics are far different then the Pulse that Harry designed. The bottom design on the AVH A.T. is a excellent design, the Pulse, I'm not a fan of.. I'll just leave it at that. It has it's applications, but not on that particular hull. It never is as easy as stated, so dialing in on the first one will be essential.. I know the 38 Formula took a while..great success.. but have been on two hustlers with these drives, and am sold. I believe, and this would be my set up if I were to do another A.T. ... In a 37 ..Custom 598 CI Naturally asperated Eddie Young motor producing 725-750 hp and some ASD-7's. or the 43 .. superchaged version 850hp and same ASD-7 drives. |

more power BIG Daddy :coolcowboy: more power :drink::drink: |
i did a set of motors that are in the boatfreaks 32 aactive thunder and they made 640. the boat ran 92 with 2 people and 3/4 tank of fuel. i feel with prop work we could see 3 or 4 more. So that said i would think 700 aside would get you close. As for the boat handling the speed i rode in Mike Patrones 32 with 1100 a side, boat had stand off boxes and was a none notched transom boat and i saw 122 on the gps about 10 different times and the boat was on rails. Talking about get there fast i have yet to feel a boat go from 60 to 110 as fast as that boat did that was not a drag boat.
