How high can you bring the bad drive with out breaking the tie bar ? I almost tried that when i broke the prop shaft but was unsure on how high I could go with it.

The (dead) prop is what would be creating drag. If you didn't have the prop on there, you were in pretty good shape as is. You can spread the drives maybe 2-3 indicator points without creating too much stress, but I wouldn't do it on a regular basis.
