Who insures your AT?

Looking on getting some quotes for an 28 AT. I live in fla. who has the best deal out there? Thanks

risky 10-27-2009 06:26 AM

Depends on HP

When I had the 496HO I used state Farm it was around 500, when I put the 525 in my cost went up about 200, so 700.00 was my cost but I had to go to a local marine insurance company. Shop around and get some quotes, for my current boat I use Boat U.S.

What they said. He is also the original 37 AT AVH owner! He has owned 2-3 AT's.

I was quoting rates I had with my 28 Active thunder...First when it had the 496 then when I dropped in a 525. The Baja has a 700HP blower motor ins. on that will suck! My 28 Cobalt is only 399.00 with Boat US.

Beak Boater 10-27-2009 02:01 PM

Had State Farm, for 14 years on 3 different boats, wouldnt insure my Outerlimits had Markel, got rid of the OL and got a 38 Fountain State Farm would not insure it either. Went with WakeZone and saved a bunch of money. Shoot Stacy an email great person to work with.

I was refering to Dennis having just bought a Baja........and I agree, if BoatUS will insure it they are great to deal with and claims service is second to none (I had them with cruisers for many years).

Griff 10-27-2009 02:32 PM

State Farm for me also, but I don't know if they write any HP boats in Florida.

risky 10-27-2009 02:36 PM

I was thinking to myself how did he know I just got the Baja

My Addiction 10-27-2009 06:04 PM

I have Allstate. I think they told me as long as the boat was 500 hp or less they would insure it, I think.

I'm not to sure about the hp thing. I too am with Allstate and was with my old 28. My agent is very aware of what is under the hatch and has been on the boat.

Maybe taking him on that boat ride is the KEY to getting it insured!!! :)

Hurricane prone areas are different than the rest of the nation. You most probably been through the auto insurance companies with no success which is why you're posting. I have mine through Elton Porter. Keep in mind that all boat insurance is expensive where you live even without wind coverage. I got wind coverage but paid dearly for it. But, you need to ask. Nothing like getting into a huge line at the gas station during an evacuation pulling a boat when you wouldn't even need to stop otherwise.

cosmic12 10-28-2009 06:10 AM

I had a tough time getting ins. for that boat in 06 I can't imagine its any easier now. I ended up going to Sy Goldburg and it wasn't cheap.
So did you do the deal yet?

No deal yet. Should know later today. Insurance is a bear. Very expensive. State Farm is not writeing boat policies in fla. So far Elton Porter has the best quote. Waiting on two more quotes. I will keep you informed.

Did you try boat US

They were the cheapest for my cobalt, but it is not a performance boat.

Guys, go through Stacy on here. She is WakeZone and beat all the others for my 28AT. She is responsive and knowledgeable too.

Elton Porter was a much better deal with same coverage.

I found the same to be true with me as well.

"SHUKO" 10-30-2009 01:16 PM

I also went with Sy Goldberg at Total Dollar. He was $300 cheaper than Stacey at WakeZone. I've had numerous boats over the years and all were insured through State Farm but I couldn't get any auto insurers to touch a high performance boat. I'm keeping an eye on these replies though because I believe that someone has to have a better rate even though Sy was the cheapest that I could find.

Gladhe8er 10-30-2009 05:36 PM

David Barbee at Elton Porter was the lowest for me. Ended up choosing Progressive. Just got my renewal and it is $250 less than last year! More beer money for Key West!

HMMMMM......interesting,,obviously every policy is a little different but 3 or 4 say Elton Porter so he must be the 'Go To" guy. I just wanted to get a certain number, and once I called several and Stacey was under my number I stopped.
Maybe I should have kept shopping!
