28 Savage stereo upgrade?
Looking for info on upgrading the sound system. I want to keep the head unit just wanting to replace the 4 factory speakers with JL Audio and adding 1 10" JL sub along with JL's New marine amp MHD 900/5.
Has any one did this or a simular upgrade? if so do you have any pics or maybe better suggestions? Also what size are the factory speakers 6".5"? as I would like to upgrade to the 7".7" is this possible? The reason I am asking some of these questions is because I do not have the boat as of yet. I am trying to get things ready for when I pick up the boat. Thanks for any info. |
You ought to be able to put the upsized speakers in there, but I would not purchase anything until you survey your surrounding areas first. Anyone could have made mods that none of us are aware of. Cosmic is probably your best resource for specifics on that boat.

First and formost......CONGRATS!!!!!!!
You got your self a great boat. I made no mods to anything on it at all but have no idea if any were done afterwards. The stereo that Pat put in it was just fine for me sounded quite good really for a stock set up. Like OC said you might want to wait untill you have it and take a close look at everything before you start spending. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with it I really don't know but from experince I learned nothing is perfect in your eyes as done by someone else, just say'n wait till you get it home and get to know it. Be sure to post up some pics ASAP I haven't seen it in a long time. You are going to love it !!!!!! |

My stock stereo sounds pretty good(six 6.5" speakers I believe), but I have wondered about upgrading. I wouldn't know where to put a 10-12" sub. The only place I can think of is in the V-berth anchor locker with the sub facing the stern, but then I lose my storage, which I definitely need.

did i read this correctly. you are installing 18 m770's. just curious if you've done it yet. john I have the rear subs in. Redoing all upholster, building pods and installing the rest of the speakers. It will be done in time to start the new season. |
how does that MDF hold up in the "marine" enviroment?
|
I will post some pics of what I have done to keep moisture away from wood.
For the plywood front, will cut 1/2 in off the bottom and screw a 1/2" x 3/4" piece of plastic (acrylic) to the bottom edge with a couple relief slots so any water on the floor will run into the rear drains that are located under the bench seat. I also raise the sub boxes off the floor 1/2" by screwing 1/2 x 1/2" plastic skids under the boxes. Therefore, no wood is touching the floor. Then I cover all the wood with carpet with rubber backing. Seems to hold up pretty good. |
