Swim Platform

Which holds up better on the swim platform, Paint or Powder Coat ? Pro's and cons on both ?

Paint.

Paint has a chemical bond where powder is thermal.
Paint is repairable with easy match of color.

We use self etching primer and base coat/clear coat

Powder PITA

Paint-paint-paint
one word...........Repairable

Double the work but we PC with a close base color and then paint. The corrosion resistance and adhesion sucks with paint.

They both have there benefits. Mine is powdercoated. I did repair a decent docking f'up with several coats of paint on the area and it is holding up fine. That being said, once it starts chipping and bubbling, there is no fixing powdercoating. Mine is 3 years old and is starting to get some cracking on the center brace. It will probably need to be redone in a year or two.

Are you in salt or fresh water?

laszlo01 03-26-2010 04:01 PM

Fresh water, sand blasted the whole thing and then self etching primer and repainting, looking good.

Your boat looked great last year, this season sounds like I may not recognize it. Keep up the good work and updates!

Thank you, hoping to keep up the appearance and performance that A/T represents here in the great lakes, and of course have allot of fun doing it, hope to see you at the bay this year.

I second that Laz, definitely looked sharp last year!

NEVERSATISFIED 03-28-2010 10:07 PM

I hope to see it soon this year also. I'll try to make sure I'm on a different dock. I don't even want to tie up close to you, I'm sure you don't want to have to clean up my drool. LOL!!!

Ok thats a good one, you are more than welcome to tie up and drool all you want, your slingshot is no schlep either, looks like a nice piece, lets meet up for a run this year.

Sounds great thanks for the invite I hope we can do that sometime this year (if you will wait up). LOL
My brother lives up on the Detriot river. I'd like to make it up that way this year maybe you could show me your end of the lake.

Sure thing we could meet up at middle sister and run in from there, we should be hitting the water first of May, we also do some fun runs with the LEOPA group to the bay as well, we meet up at the toledo light house and run as a group. I will keep you in the loop. Laszlo

This is definitely the best way to go. Pat also has a new kick ass anti skid finish for the swim platforms which is a major safety improvement. I am currently having him put the finish on my swim platform.

Ive noticed on some boats the paint/powder coat fading, also the exhaust residue gets on them, does powdercoat do that ?
